I have the identical setup, but with a lightweight barrel. Can it be called an "M4" without the M4 barrel profile? It does have M4 feed ramps and the upper is marked "M4." It also came from the factory with the fat M4 handguards and the waffle stock. Attached File |

Not an uncommon issue. Most units had the older M15A2 BFA which was designed to function with the 20" barreled M16's. Gas system The Shorter M4's 14.5" barrel and gas system had the Yellow M23BFA designed to have a different size orifice in the stem that screwed into the barrel to give it the proper amount of gas to cycle. Like running a red light, you can do it without getting in an accident but to do it continually, Karma catches up with you. Most units, the guys hated cleaning the guns after ARTEPS/Lanes training and avoided using blanks when they could. So, the use of the correct BFA was moot. But like all things Big Army, if you can't even get something simple like the correct BFA to go with your units' Rifles/carbines right, imagine the other shit there doing wrong. This is why we can't have nice things....

Bump for all who love a basic carbine. Over the years I've gotten so into optics, lights, and doodads that I realized I had customized most of my weapons to the point that I missed a good, basic carbine. I sold off a couple of my older, accessorized carbines recently. I took the money down to Sportsman's Warehouse where I bought a Plain Jane Colt CR6920 M4 carbine. When I got it home I removed the Magpul MBUS, slapped a Colt carry handle on it, and it was finished. 'Nuff Said. |
