Inspected 5 M4 carbines within SN range W06xxx-W088xx yesterday.  Couple still had peel washers and all not upgraded to A1 standard.  Three had Colt N1 stocks.  All wore MaTech BUIS and RAS handguards.  Replaced worn bolt (gas) rings on two of the guns.

Did they miss the upgrade because they haven't cycled back to CONUS yet (through ANAD or wherever)?
All will be upgraded eventually, right?

I thought the peel washer had gone to the crush washer by then. I'm going to have to fix some of my weapons.

Yes it looks like it’s set up for F.AT.S. with the leads coming out of it. So computer based training. The one I worked with used real firearms they just removed the real fire components and replaced with electronics including compressed air  to simulate recoil.

SEAL 2 guns in Scotland back in 89/90'.  We were doing dive training with them in the Irish Sea.  They would come down to Bad Tolz Germany and ski in the Alps with us in the winter.  Swimming with a M16A2 sucks as you're always kicking it while finning. (straped along your side)

I have the identical setup, but with a lightweight barrel.  Can it be called an "M4" without the M4 barrel profile?  It does have M4 feed ramps and the upper is marked "M4."  It also came from the factory with the fat M4 handguards and the waffle stock.

Because your unit armorer was a retard who was put in that position to get him out of the way....

Not an uncommon issue.
Most units had the older M15A2 BFA which was designed to function with the 20" barreled M16's. Gas system
The Shorter M4's 14.5" barrel and gas system had the Yellow M23BFA designed to have a different size orifice in the stem that screwed into the barrel to give it the proper amount of gas to cycle.

Like running a red light, you can do it without getting in an accident but to do it continually, Karma catches up with you.

Most units, the guys hated cleaning the guns after ARTEPS/Lanes training and avoided using blanks when they could. So, the use of the correct BFA was moot.

But like all things Big Army, if you can't even get something simple like the correct BFA to go with your units' Rifles/carbines right, imagine the other shit there doing wrong.

This is why we can't have nice things....

I do seem to remember a story told to me by a Vietnam vet.  Desperately they waited for M16 cleaning kits that they were constantly told were "on the way."  "Any day now."  "Swear they got 'em ordered." "You'll see 'em by such-and-such day."  They waited.  And waited.  And waited.

Finally, the cleaning kits came.  Brand new, shiny, unused. M14 cleaning kits.

Another in our "interesting photos" category.  What appear to be thinner profile handguards and a BFA I am not familiar with.

TANDUO BEACH, Malaysia (Nov. 13, 2015) U.S. Marines with Kilo Company, Battalion Landing Team 3rd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit, and Malaysian soldiers begin an amphibious beach assault during Malaysia-United States Amphibious Exercise 2015. During the culminating event, Malaysian soldiers alongside Marines assaulted the beach using tactics learned throughout MALUS AMPHEX 15. The purpose of the exercise was to strengthen military cooperation in the planning and execution of amphibious operations between Malaysian armed forces and U.S. Marines. Bump for all who love a basic carbine.

Over the years I've gotten so into optics, lights, and doodads that I realized I had customized most of my weapons to the point that I missed a good, basic carbine.

I sold off a couple of my older, accessorized carbines recently.

I took the money down to Sportsman's Warehouse where I bought a Plain Jane Colt CR6920 M4 carbine.  When I got it home I removed the Magpul MBUS, slapped a Colt carry handle on it, and it was finished.

'Nuff Said.
