Is a switchblock a necessity when using a suppressor?

I currently have one on my 10.5 Noveske 5.56 with 762-SDN-6. I want to install an NSR rail, but it doesn't fit over the switchblock & I don't want to cut it either. My question is, can i just put a low pro gas block instead of the Switchblock or does it really make a huge difference. Thanks.

Why not go with an adjustable gas block like the Govnah?  I have one under an NSR and it works great.

You don't need an adjustable gas block (or Switchblock) to use a suppressor with an AR.  Some people like them to decrease gas blowback and fouling to a point.  They're also a good idea if you barrel has an oversized gas port.

FWIW, none of my rifles that I use a suppressor on have adjustable gas and I have no issues.

Not a necessity, but a nice-to-have.  Makes the rifle a little nicer to shoot with the silencer attached.  I have a switchblock on my 5.56 and an SLR Sentry 7 on my 308...I prefer the simplicity of the switchblock but had to cut the rail for it.  If you want to avoid that, the SLR is top notch.

Agree with above, it's not necessary but certainly has a profound effect on reducing the excess gas and making a smoother, quieter experience. I wish all my uppers had a switchblock.

I like mine when shooting suppressed.  SLR was kind enough to build a custom rail for my setup. Overall the gun is a bit ugly, but that is not SLR's fault.
