Looking for a somewhat cheap muzzle device to put on my 16" AR15.   <$50

I would like to have one that reduces flashes more so than compensation and I don't want one that blows gas back towards me.
I am familiar with the A2, and shark muzzle brake (hated it).

I have the JP Enterprises 3 prong flash hider on my first AR and it works great. Optics planet has it on sale right now for under $50.

I have 2 of these, one stainless and one black
brake
I love them
they do blast back and to the side NOT in the face
but they keep the barrel very still, very easy to re-aquire target after each shot.

the one in the link is $25
the black model is $12 or $13

Yes.  YHM Phantom 5C1 or 5C2.  Identical in performance.  Only differ cosmetically in shape of the front edge.  I prefer the smooth front of the 5C1 over the door buster shape of the 5C2.  I have both.  These flash hiders always rate in the top performing group in every comparison test and only cost about $25.

They don't "ping" like many of the pronged tuning fork style flash hiders.

The lowly  A2 is still one of the best overall muzzle devices available. Even the Phantom takes its design from it.

I've run many different designs over the years with little to no difference/improvement over the A2. Cosmetics aside, most of the after market devices are just not worth the extra dollars. YMMV

Regular A2. Minimal cost. Pretty effective. Most other flash hiders are longer, too.

After experimenting with different brakes, most of my rifles are back to having A2s.  Especially considering my recent dive into the 10.5/11.5 game.

Hard to beat the old tried and true A2, does better than many high priced options in relation to flash signature, cheap too.

B.E. Meyers 249F is still king as far as I know, they're expensive though.

I'd probably go with AAC Blackout Non Mount, similar performance to the 249F is what I've been told, never seen them tested SxS, but it's a similar design from a reputable company so I don't doubt they're similar performance wise. The Non Mount can be had for around $50. So not quite 249F performance but good nonetheless, and in your budget range.

TTAG's Flash Hider Shootout had the JP FH, BE Meyers 249F, and the Blackout FH as basically in the top three if you compared both of their tests.

I've gone back to A1/A2 birdcage f/hs....simple and effective.

I would say A2 as well...but if you must have something different and cheap, its a YHM Phantom model of some sort.
