Well the big news is Springfield is now making an AR here is the Guns America review. here is the product page. Kinda hard to get excited about one more company making ARs. Yawn. The guy in that guns America article seemed really excited about the melonite barrel, gee it's not like PSA even puts them on their cheapest line of uppers. |
| I am wondering how long till the Saint II a 308 (no I don't know there will be one, just hoping) I expect this one to be cheaper than a Colt 6920 by a good bit, but Colt just brought out a new, pricier carbine a 6960 Well at least things are not stagnant. |

A reliable and functional M1 Carbine would have been awesome but this has got to be a joke.

I was just saying melonite has pretty much become the new standard and it isn't very expensive like the author said in the guns America article. |

That actually looks kind of exciting. Seems like an excellent package for the money - cool styling and decent performance. Would be really curious who makes those barrels, and how they hold up in the hands of actual customers. I agree its an interesting first offering, buy IMO the price is too high, and their timing sucks. $899 fairly puts you in Colt or BCM territory. Its hard to justify that point with an essentially unknown rifle. Drop it $100 or so and you'll probably get more interest and more products into circulation... Which leads to better reputation. Priced at $799, I suspect this would compete well in the Stag, Spike,RRA crowds. And week before this particular election? WTF. |

The process is far less expensive than CL. |

You hit the nail on the head with a nuclear bomb. AINT NEVA BEEN DUN BEFO! Springfield has good history with the 1903, M1A, and even their 1911's in recent decades, but NO ONE is going to look back and say "Man those Springfield AR's that came out in 2016 sure were a game changer." |

I wanna see the dude who got up in a meeting and said "We should jump into the AR market." I doubt it was an exciting moment or some big epiphany.... I would imagine it was more of a - "We might as well.." moment. I guess since that's not Springfield's bread and butter, Its a good BCM "value" rifle. Definitely not impressed considering how much it was hyped by Springfield. I'm sure its a nice shooter though. |
Honestly, the specs looks good.
And, they priced it right with a MSRP of $899. That should put the street price around $700-750, which considering the specs, looks like a great deal. Kudos to Springfield. I was blown away by that MSRP, I was figuring it would have been north of $999. I'd buy one. My only grip is all the branding. Their logo on the left hand side would have sufficed. |

Probably a little more than the m4 expanse, and this looks like a better rifle if it runs right. I'm not really interested in buying complete rifles though, I would just end up changing everything and paying a ton more I still don't understand what the fitness models had to do with all of this |
| This is a huge failure for Springfield IMO. You're MASSIVELY late to the market and you put out something that doesn't really distinguish itself from the market. Reminds me of Glock and the 43, except Glock fanboys will buy anything and I don't think SA has that kind of following. |
|
I was expecting for something a bit more exciting, but if the street price is $700-$750, I think it will be a good option. The specs seen pretty solid.
The biggest thing I noticed is that that one of the reviewers had the front of the handguard melt on them, but that was after 240 rounds in "a few minutes". The rifle was hot to the point where the Parkerizing was gone from the flash hider and part of the gas block. His hands were fine though and he made it a point to say that only the part of the handguards that were affixed to the gas block melted. |

Quoted: I was excited to see a new AR product hit the market. Liked everything about it until I read the barrel specs. I will only buy an AR with a Chrome lined barrel period. That's where my intest in the new weapon ceased. That's too bad. However, to each his own. I for one have no need for a CL'd barrel. Melonite works just fine. My only complaint about the Saint is that it doesn't have a Faxon GUNNER barrel. ![]() |

In my experience, melonite has been better than chrome lining by a Large margin |

A lot of haters...... SA comes out with a rifle that has good specs, decent price, and makes AR's more available and people bitch about it.
Not everybody buys 2K rifles for the most part AR buyers like to keep it under a grand. Why do you think DPMS sells more rifles than anyone else? I might get one of these for my dad since he has been wanting a AR and nothing special or expensive. I also do not get why are you guys bitching about SA coming out with this when they are one of the best CS companies in the game. |

This, I almost bought the Ruger AR, but decided to build one instead, had this been on the shelf at the time. I'd just bought it and built something else down the road. |

Was getting ready to get a Ruger 556 this week. Might just have to look at this one also.

| This is a marketing project for SA. There are a ton of younger folks out there who just bought their first handgun for concealed carry. Springfield is now telling that demographic that "you need a rifle for home defense to go along with that pistol you have...." Look at the age of the models in the advertising. There's the tell. |
|
Springfield Armory should have developed a National Match AR-15 no later than 1995 for NRA service rifle division. By then it was obvious which way the wind blew. Several top M1-A shooters at my club (former Marines) stopped competing around then, disgusted that the AR-15 was winning the tournaments.
Old prejudices die hard. It was the same regarding "wonder nines" in the 1980's. The 1911 fan base was disgusted with their introduction. Never mind that the Browning Hi-Power had been on the market since 1935 and their hero John Moses Browning had a hand in developing it. I think it's great Springfield Armory is selling an AR, the more the merrier. The truth is the market for M1-A's is narrow and expensive. They need to branch out because the Vietnam veterans who adored that rifle are fading from the scene. My nephew is still shooting the M14 DMR in Afghanistan as I speak, so all is not completely lost. But he stands to inherit a M1-A Super Match, so he wont really need to buy one will he |

I can't believe some of the comments I'm reading on social media. Good grief. I may order one now just because of all the haters. |

overpriced. Buy the AC-15 midlength over this. not even chrome lined and that expensive?? Overpriced? Compared to what? Find me another gun for around and below $850 that has all these features. It's about the price of a Colt Expanse but it actually comes with enhanced furniture, a midlength gas system, and a great trigger. If somebody has a better alternative for the price, please let us know. |
