I'm building my interpretation of a DMR.  The parts are starting to show up and I've been thinking about the trigger.   Does anyone know which trigger(s) the military uses in their DMR rifles?  I love light precise triggers but I want this gun to be rugged and practical.  So I'm curious what the military decided on.

Thanks!

KAC 2-stage

I have a friend who was a DM in the 75th

KAC 2 stage in our Mk12s.

But keep in mind that KAC was the only manufacturer making a light trigger that was compatible with an auto sear and auto components.

If I were you, I'd just get a Geiselle SSA-E or LaRue MBT.

Both are great triggers and feel relatively the same.

Thanks guys!  That's exactly what I was looking for.

What is your part list if you don't mind me asking

The USAMU used the KAC 2-stage because that was already Army/SOCOM safety-certified for the Mark 12 SPR.

Now that the Geissele SSF is SOCOM-certified that would be my recommendation as it has faster lock-time and fewer durability issues.  We would replace KAC triggers at 3500-odd rounds or after the second barrel if it was still holding up (on 3rd Ranger Battalion SPRs).

A Geissele SSA would be a good stand-in since/if you don't need select-fire.

Geissele SSA in my 20" Grendel.

I started with an SSA-E but felt the SSA was better for the DMR config.

That's an interesting question.  I've been wanting to build a DMR style rifle for some time.  I'm not sure my concept of a DMR rifle matches the many builds I've seen online or even the military's.  I want the lightest rifle that gives me acceptable (1 MOA hopefully) that is still very rugged and very practical.  I want to to work well from 25 to 600 yards.  I wanted to go with a 20" barrel because that's really what the 5.56 was designed for .  Looking at velocity vs barrel length charts that seems like the sweet spot.  So when I saw a 20" PSA upper finally show back up in stock I decided to grab it.  It's this upper....

PSA 20" Upper

It's got an "A2" profile barrel.  I'm doubtful that will get me the 1 MOA (with match ammo) that I'm after, but I wanted to start with the lightest barrel I could.  If accuracy isn't acceptable I'll try something a little heavier.  What I want to avoid is a really heavy barrel because I want this to be a practical gun to carry.  I have several extremely accurate (1/4 MOA)  rifles including a  pure bench rest rifle.  They are awesome and completely impractical.

(continued in next response... new users are limited to 2000 characters for some crazy reason).

(continued...)

I'm just going to build up a PSA lower with one of their lower parts kits but I'm going to use a Geissele SSA or SSA-E trigger after reading the responses to this thread.  I think I'm going to go with a Magpul PRS stock.  Half of me wants to go with something lighter but I think having a good interface between the shooter and the gun is important especially with an AR where the standard butt stocks tend to be terrible with a scope.  I haven't decided on the grip yet, but it'll probably just be a magpul.  I'll most likely throw a Harris bipod on it.  I own several Harris bipods and am happy with them.  Although I know there are some newer brands out there so I need to research it and make sure there isn't a better option.

The scope I haven't done any research on.  I want something variable powered.  Ideally 2x-10x or something like that.  I like the Primary Arms 4-14 with the ACSS reticle but I don't think I want a scope that large/heavy and I think I want a lower power that 4 on the low end.  I have a lot of research to do here to figure out what I want.

I was a designated marksman for a deployment with a Guard unit...I had a shitty stock M16A4 and then a shitty M4 with a super nice TA31F on top This was circa 2008.

Still made 8/10 hits @ 500yds on the KD range with either rifle on an average day.

My civilian mockup of that configuration has changed over the years, and is no longer a true clone but still has a TA31F. The rifle is now a BCM 14.5 BFH barrel with KMR handguard and an SSA-E. Man, what I would have given for a Geissele trigger over there...
