My Fixed FSB was my standard for the 30 years I served, why do these questions come up?

i have several with a fixed FSB

I have a RRA Entry Tactical with one, which is now a backup/apartment long AR. Don't like having the $$$$ guns at the apartment.

My preference is folding sights. I'm a FIRM believer in optics, so an A2 front sight is only in the way. I don't believe there is ANY benefit to an A2 sight.

Every now and again I'll go back to a kiss setup. I'll find something that I have to have and sell whatever tube, optic, or other heavy accessory my rifles wearing to get it. A 14.5 carbine points great and is feather light comparatively. It looks boring compared to ray gun builds but is very effective. Plus I like the silhouette. For my purposes. The a2 sights work great.

Here is the thing, a standard issue M4 has a standard FSB and carbine handguards, not free-float handguards. They can have drop-in railed handguards such as the KAC M4 RAS or something similar. SPECOPS teams may have some modifications done to their M4s, but they most likely would still have a FSB. If they no longer had the FSB and it was replaced with a low profile gas block and free-float handguards, then it is no longer a standard M4 configured weapon.

There is a benefit to a2 and all iron sights.

DISCLAIMER: I'm probably a transitional fudd so there's that

I don't get to train as often as I like. And to me, sight alignment is one those old fundamentals that tend to get lost in optical trends. Red dots, scopes, and prisms are great. I've owned many. And will again.

But the value of iron sights is the ability to shoot any weapon in any configuration. I have seen men that were so rds spoiled they couldn't hit there own foot if they wanted too. And usually suffer at pistol shooting as well.

Buy your optics, enjoy them. But normal, conventional sights are not useless.

I can switch from an ar to a lever action, to a saa, then a long range setup and still have predictable results because I practice fundamental shooting opposed to red dot chasing.

End fudd rant

Here's a pic of the same rifle I posted above. I took all the shit off of it and went back to an m4 configuration. I now have a 6 pound rifle instead of this pig.

I had a zooted up BCM with a 13" KMR, Troy's, optic etc. it was nice but the more I handled it the more I asked myself what it's purpose was. My AR is an insurance policy and as such I want it capable of being employed, maintained and repaired with as little effort as possible under any conditions. I sold the upper and just finished an M4A1 all Colt build and after its second range session I am very happy I did.

Honestly, I am getting out of free float guns and going back to m4 type deals.

There appears to be a lot of confusion as to what an M4 is. Gentlemen, this is a standard M4 setup.

What some of you are showing are just carbines, not standard M4 setups.

For the OP, this is a 727 clone. Note the 14.5" M4 profile barrel and A2 upper receiver.

I have a M4A1 clone like what the Army is issuing now and it is a wonderfully balanced rifle.

Mid-Length is more-better on a 16" barrel.

I don't get hung up on labels unless I'm doing a clone, M4 has turned into somewhat of a catch all term for a short AR15. (Not that I use it)

Also, this was the question:
Are there any team guys that still use an m4 with the standard fixed a2 front sight of have they all went free float extended rails?

It's not exactly what he asked, but it's somewhat relevant.

Fair enough. This is the closest I've got to that.

When you say "team guys", do you mean special forces, or arfcom team members? I took it to mean SF, but I don't think that is the replies you are getting.
I've come to appreciate the standard configuration with plastic handguards and iron sights.

Yeah, this is my interpretation too.  And if so, "Team Guys"  like Navy SEALS and ODA Teams have a lot of different "M4" configs at their disposal.  Sometimes I think they still use a regular ole M4 or M4A1.  But then you have the CQBR and M4A1 block II that have rails.  And then there is the first Mk18 that the Navy used, the Mod 1 I think it is, that had an FSB too, on a short barrel.  If you peruse the clone threads around here, you'll get the gist.  Block 1/1.5, Block II, Mk18 threads.

If you're talking about Team members on here, well sure, lots of guys still have a FSB.  My M4gery still has double heat shields.  Although that may or may not change.

Yes, 1 with FSB. It's my favorite.

Just put this together yesterday:

[#25]
"Team" guys such as Delta, SEAL's, Force Recon, Rangers, etc will use what they're issued; but they can requisition a lot of things, within reason. More than a few probably prefer the standard M4A1 with RAS and A2 FSB, since it balances well and that's what a lot of them started out with.

If a Tier 1 dude wants the original M4 carbine with gov't profile barrel, A2 upper receiver and burst FCG, he can probably get one.

As we've seen in the M4A1 Block II thread, team guys are getting .gov profile barrels.

Also a lot still use the KAC RAS.

KAC RAS is awesome, i have zero interest in wizz bang junk out there today. bare bones issue M4 is awesome.

Here is my current favorite.

I have yet to find a better rifle that balances this well. It has a SOCOM profile barrel as well.(Yes I know Spikes color fill lower, it's all my local shops carry)

My M4gery is an HBAR but it's weird how much better it balances over my Recce.  It balances so nice.  It would be too heavy for me with all that stuff you have on it.  But the balance does make a difference in how it FEELS.

My return to the M4A1ish set up for work and allowing my oldest daughter as much trigger time as possible before she reports to West Point for Beast.

We still sell a good number of carbines (and rifles for that matter) with fixed front sight housings.
Almost all are on A4 receivers, however, as the A2 has largely (and within only a few years) dropped out of popularity. We still build them, but nowhere near the numbers that we used to.

Yeah sorry for the confusion, by team guys I meant sf, seals, etc.  It seems they all have gone free float barrels and extended rails, but are any still using the standard config m4s?

Who knows.  A lot of pics you see show them with just M4's.  It kind of depends on the service.  But who knows how old some of the pics are.  For all I know Navy SEALS are using lazer guns right this instant.    And DELTA or whatever they're called now are using space age pulse guns that fry holes into people.  Like you see on TV.
