Hi all,

Been a long time since I've owned/kept up with the AR world.  Times change though and I'm really wanting to buy an AR again.  Unfortunately, my financial situation is vastly different than is was just a couple of years ago so price is an extreme consideration.  Must as I'd like to, I just can't do the Noveske/LMT/BCM full trick out thing now or for the foreseeable future.  So, what would you guys recommend for a "budget" rifle that's dependable and solid....basic 6920?  Lot's of new makers out here so I'm kinda puzzled..

I would just go pick up a S&W M&P 15, it is pretty good quality and I know a lot of people who are very happy with it, it is budget, it has a few less features, but it is a good shooting gun, if you pay attention to the ad's you can find them for a very reasonable price.

Colt 6920 or a Smith &Wesson MP15 Sport.

Easy peasy. I just built one from PSA for about $500. You could get a really decent setup for $1k these days.

for the next couple months

You can get more than you think for a grand if you're doing it yourself and take your time. And if you can put part a round peg in a round hole and use a torque wrench, you can build an AR. There's a plethora of information on how to online, both here and all over the internet.

Now that I can do! lol...Probably will try to get a complete rifle though

Colt OEM if you're keeping it simple. Otherwise build.

Spikes still makes a great, reliable AR.  A nice middy for $800 gives you great bang for the buck.

Spikes has a little better re-sale value than PSA if you ever have to unload it.  IMHO QC's more consistent too.

With that said, most of the PSA upper/lowers work just fine.

Like many others have said, PSA is good to go. I've built several for friends and family and they're all still kickin'.

Best bet is to stick with their premium and CHF lines if you want the best barrels. That will still keep you well under $1K too.

If you can stretch your budget just a bit, anything from BCM would do you well too.

There are many good answers to your question, so take my suggestion with a grain of salt.  I'm a big fan of Aero Precision.  Have used numerous parts of theirs on my builds, and have been very impressed with their quality - especially for the price.

If you want a solid rifle that's ready to go:

If you want to customize your stock, rail, and sights:

Yeah...I'd love to get a BCM rifle... or an LMT, but it would take quite a bit longer.  No telling if they will be available ( or even possible/affordable) given the potential politcal nightmare we are headed for.

Windham rifles are mostly under 1K and come with a lifetime warranty.

For 1k or less I'd look at a colt 6920 or 6720.

Can buy an assembled PSA lower for about $220.
Add a BCM middy upper with BCG and charging handle for $550
Leaves $230 for rear sight, handguard and some mags/ammo

Or go same lower. Check out Andro corp industry page grab an upper from them and have a few more $ for ammo

Colt 6920 OEM for $750. Add stock/handguards/trigger guard of your choice.

Yes they can but you gotta move fast.  Go to jtdist.com and sign up for notifications.  They hit pretty regular but roll out of stock at hyper speed.

I would say go with the Aero from Brownell's and finish it out with Magpul furniture and you are in business with a great rifle with a little cash left over for ammo.

I don't know where you are in Alabama, but I see M&P Sport 2s at prices that would equate to about 625-650 out the door.  I would do that, add

a Bushnell TRS-25 with mount from Primary arms for about 110, a pack of 10 magazines from PSA for about 80, and then dump the rest into all the

wolf gold you can get from AIM surplus.

I just ordered two 6920 OEMs last night for $760 shipped each. I was ok with that price.
