I just purchased this side sling swivel.

Seller claimed it was a factory Colt part. I searched online for pics and the one I received has a different number on it than the pics I have found online.

The unit I received has 33005 marked on the body of the mount itself along with 3 circles on that same side. The mounts on the pictures I have found online have 12991254 marked on the removable piece.

These are pics of the one I received today, have not opened it, if it's fake or from another brand I will return it:

These are the pics I have found online from reputable retailers:

Both of the ones offered on those websites have "12991254" marked on them.

My questions are:

-Is my unit an authentic Colt side sling mount? Maybe it was misrepresented and one from another brand was sent(such as RRA, Stag or Pro-Mag)?

Thanks

I've got two 6920 M4 carbines back when they were included the side sling mounts, one made in 2011 and the other in 2012, both have the 12991254 marked on the removable locking piece.

On the same removable piece there is a single number "4" with a circle near one end, same area where the long number is marked.

Mine are the new version, I've seen the older version where the removable piece had two radius cuts a 0.750 on one side the other a 0.625, reversible for use on either 0.750" or 0.625" diameter gas block journals.

2. If this is authentic, is this NEW style or OLD style? Been hearing this term when researching these mounts.

If the detachable piece that goes on the other side of the barrel from the loop end looks like the Specializes Armament photo (one radius cu that fits a .750" barrel), it's the new style.  The old style had two radius cuts, to fit .750" or .625" barrels.

Got it. The removeable piece only has one cut, not one on each side.

So my second question is settled, this is new style. Now to figure out weather it's Colt or not.

What do you mean by Colt? They don't manufacture these, they're subcontracted. The 33005 is likely a cage code, even when these come new in wrap Colt is not listed as the case code entity.

If they are not manufactured by Colt, still every website that sells them advertises them as COLT, I didn't make this up.

Basically what I want to know is weather I picked up a good one or I was ripped off and got a cheap knock off for the price of an authentic one.

This is the one I removed from my 6920, it's a 2010 manufacture, it has the .170 trigger pins.

In addition to the number being stamped differently, it also has the number 3 in a circle and another 7 digit number on the part of the swivel which is concave and goes over the barrel.

Well, probably the common meaning that it was once in Colt's inventory, I should think.  Yeah yeah yeah, we know, companies will contract parts out.  There have been Colt barrels made by Green Mountain.  They're still Colt.

Anyway, it doesn't look like it's the CAGE code.  The company with the CAGE code of 33005 makes electronics-related stuff.

Green Mountain makes blanks for Colt, they still do all the finishing operations to them. These are different; FN and Colt don't do any machining to them, they're made by the cage company, just like KAC rails, they're shipped to Colt for assembly. This is why when you find a Colt barrel, even though it's blank came from GM, the cage code is Colt, same with the side sling swivels, it's who made the part in its current configuration assembly.

Also the 33005 swivels have been around since at least '06, an op posted a message on here asking about it. Also just because they make electronics doesn't mean they don't subcontract out themselves. Winning a supply contract doesn't mean you have to manufacture them, just that have to supply, kind of like L3 supplying M67's.

I have the same one, which I do believe is USGI at least. Where did you order yours from OP?

If the part numbers are important, order from a reputable dealer.
eBay is not the best place for parts, many are Chinese knockoffs

PK Firearms has them, Operation Parts has them.

It's fairly certain its a Rock River Arms side swivel. I have the same one with the same numbers. Although I will say rock River uses a lot of the same manufactures as Colt does. Cerro forge makes Colts uppers and lowers and Cerro Forge also makes most of Rock Rivers upper and lowers.

Hey guys thanks for all of your input.

All my questions have been answered. If anyone knows where I can get one of the 12991254 sling swivels at a decent price, please let me know.

Thanks
