| So i'm building a mini recce. It's going to be a 14.5 midlength upper 15" handguard. I live in a shit state where flash hiders aren't aloud. I guess my question is do i put a linear comp on the rifle or do i put a vg6 muzzle brake with cage? On my shtf rifle i'm currently running a hera arms linear comp and i like it but it's set up with an aimpoint red dot and kinda made more for close quarters. The new build is gonna have a vortex viper on it and is really geared to reaching out a little more. Up for any suggestions I'm here to learn thanks |
My first choice these days is always a flash hider (I actually ground off a pinned battle comp and pinned an A2X on one rifle )
Given your location, I would put on this: Griffin Flash Comp Make sure it's legal for your state, obviously. |

Black River Tactical linear covert comp +1... love my BRT Covert Comp |
| These ALG Single Chamber brakes look good for the money. Free shipping too. |

Is there a blast shield for that bastard? I thought that was what OP was getting at; either a linear, or a brake with shield. I could be wrong. |

Up for any suggestions I'm here to learn thanks You're going with a shorter bbl for "reaching out there" ?? Why not get a good 16" bbl for that and cut the bbl you have now down? WE normally go shorter bbls for close quarters than "reaching out" . A 16"bbl is very capable of 4-600 yds shots. One of the guys i shoot with does 500 no problem. He's running a vortex razor. How effective they are at that distance? |
| I live 5 miles from manhattan. The closest range longer than 50 yards is about an hour and half from me so when i say reaching out i meant more towards 200 yards max. My home range which isn't that far is only a 50 yard so that's where i'll be doing most of my shooting. I have a couple 16" rifles and just wanted to build something different. My question was in regards to muzzle devices. I'll rephrase it for u, Does having a linear comp compared to a muzzle break really make that much of a difference in regards to keeping the muzzle flat for quicker follow up shots? Also, for what i'm doing does it really matter, most of my shooting is inside so what would be better the comp or the break. I'm not intertested in cutting anything or whatever. |
| I considered the issue about the handguard length. VG6 makes a muzzle break that is especially made for 14.5 length barrels. It should come out just far enough to clear the handguard so the blast isn't actually inside the handguard itself, also they make a cage that goes over the muzzle device that would mitigate some of that crazy side blast to save my neighbors in the port next to me. |

I think a few on here missed the part where OP is putting a 15" hand guard on a 14.5 barrel. OP you will need a liner muzzle device otherwise you could damage your hand guard. I was just about to post this as well. I believe there was a thread here with some pics of someone damaging their rails with this set up that was made popular with the Warsport rifles. OP: Since you're having to pin anyways, I get why you're going with a 14.5 but, I would just stick with a 13/13.5" rail honestly. If you're wanting to stick with a 15" rail, then a linear comp may be in your best interest. If I were in your shoes, I may opt for the Surefire Warcomp and also get their Blast Shield or whatever that thing is called. |

Well, it looks as if you've already done your research and if that's the set up you are wanting, then just go with it. IMO, it will have better recoil mitigation performance versus a linear comp. |
