How many of you on this site just use an AR-15 with no forward assist (plugged) and a treaded barrel with a tread protector on the end -- I have two uppers configured this way for hunting varmints.  I am just curious?

I don't use a FA (VLTOR MUR1/S) because I personally find that they get in the way of weapon manipulation and I have never needed to do a "silent" reload. They are useful for seat-checks but it's not a mandatory feature for me. Neither is a case deflector really.

Why no flash hider? I suppose if you use a thread on suppressor it would make sense rather than unscrewing a minimal flash hider every time.

I didn't go to the trouble of getting a slick side upper.
But i have a non threaded stainless barrel for my varmint rig.

How does the forward assist get in the way of weapon manipulation? Just curious as I've never heard of that particular complaint before.
