I have a question. I am thinking of buying my dad the Spikes Tactical Jolly Roger Lower. He has an existing AR-15 which is a DPMS. I was thinking of taking that AR and swaping the lowers. Can i remove all of the parts in the DPMS lower and build up the Jolly Roger and put it on his gun and everything work as it did? Thanks ETA: I cant type. |

with a couple caveats, yes. the roll pin that holds the bolt catch can be problematic to remove without damaging the lower, likewise the trigger guard pin. I (just me, now) would leave the existing lower whole , buy a lower parts kit and build another lower.(or at a minimum buy those parts and leave the others in the old lower) of course THAT leads to the "now I've got a empty lower...." . resistance is futile. |

Spikes / DPMS = MILSPEC, you should be good to go Well, as close to MIL-SPEC as it can be anyways, considering the lower and fire control groups are semi automatic. But yes the lower parts kit and buffer tube/components can be swapped between the two, although I don't see much of a point because they both do the same exact thing. I would just give him the jolly Roger to build another rifle off of. |

If you do it right you won't damage anything. Support the lower ears and the trigger guard will come right out. |

I agree completely. i have never broke one, ever (and my lower's parts should be velcroed they get switched around so often). I'm just saying taking it out is riskier than leaving it alone. Same with the bolt catch, you won't damage (scratch) the lower by NOT taking the pin out. |

Thanks for all the info and feedback. I was hoping to just swap the lower receiver. I have purchased two other stripped lowers for my son and i to due builds. I will look into lower parts kits and the parts that others have warned may be an issue. Thanks again. |

If you use the right tools neither the bolt catch or the trigger guard are difficult to remove.
For the bolt catch, you just need a roll pin punch. Drive the pin front to back. If you're still worried, use some blue painters tape on the lower. As for the trigger guard, you just need to support the ears on the lower. I use a Delrin block with a 1/8" hole drilled in it. Line up the pin with the hole so when you're driving it out it has a place to go. That being said, go pick up a LPK. I'm a big fan of the WOA kits less FCG. And add an ALG ACT Trigger |
