Need help with mounting rail > AR Discussions

Hey everyone,

I have a Spikes middy with an Eotech 512 and an MI ERS flip-up sight. I just ordered a Vortex VMT-3T magnifier with the flip to side mount for my gun, but I've quickly realized I don't have room for all three on my current setup. I'd like to keep them all installed if possible. Looks like I'll need to replace my handguard to make it work. Do I just buy a new handguard with a top rail? Dumb question, but do all rails sit flush with the top of the receiver?

I don't want a quad rail as I am not planning on other accessories. I'd like to stick with something light weight too. Also don't want to spend $200 on a rail system. Suggestions?

utg pro rails seems to have good reviews and are in your price range.

I really would not put the optical sight on a railed handguard, especially if you are going to go with a budget guard. You are asking for POI shift trouble. It might be better to sell or trade that long 512 for one of the much shorter newer model EOTechs if you want a magnifier behind it.

Sell that 512 and get an EXPS. Or, sell/trade for a 517.

Personally, I'd go with the first option.

Seems like the MOE handguard would be a simple and cost effective solution. I'll have to wait for the 3x to arrive next week to see if I can stick with the ERS. I did see the smaller Eotech models but that would probably set me back a few hundred to trade up.

Midwest Industries makes some decently priced drop in rails that give the upper the continuous look which would allow you to move the optic forward enough.

This is an example, it's an MLOK rail so it should be fairly light as far as rails go.

They clear the delta ring, just not the height of plastic hand guards.
