Hey guys I have a 20" BCM A4 upper on an LMT SOPMOD lower.  Love the set up, with the exception that it is very front heavy, and I'd like to go to an A2 stock to make it more A4ish.

Will this help with the balance issue, or would I be better off with the Magpul UBR?

Obligatory pic of rifle:

I'm also contemplating switching optics to a 4-12 and adding a bipod.

Thanks in advance.

Taking off some of those rail covers will help.

Yeah, just because you have rail space doesn't mean you must fill it.

As far as balance. You wil get used to it.

UBR is heavier than A2.  It will be a better counterbalance and a nicer stock, if you don't mind spending the money.  I have one on a Noveske N4 Recce VIS that was front-heavy with a regular carbine stock.  It balances much better now, but it's more than a pound heavier and my wallet is $250 lighter

I don't think that adding weight ever helps handling much.  Sure it might not be as front-heavy, but then it just becomes plain HEAVY, which isn't comducive to good handling either.  You get much better results from trimming weight off the muzzle end.  You might look into replacing the quad rail with a lighter modular free float handguard.  Thre are lots of very light yet strong options out there now.  You might also revisit the necessity of a VFG.

I had an A4 with a collapsible stock with a MI-SS G2 12" handguard, and felt like it balanced very nicely.

A4 barrels don't balance.  Ever.

I'd go with a VLTOR A5 kit, ditch all the covers and deal with it.

An A5 kit with an H3 buffer is a trip to shoot behind a 20" rifle.

Taking off the rail covers and loading up your SOPMOD tubes with CR123's, or whatever you could use but creates weight, will help significantly. My FSP Block II has a ton of weight up front, and I was one of the few that doesn't mind, but getting another SOPMOD and filling the tubes with CR123's helped balance significantly. I also run no rail covers on that gun to reduce weight at the front.

You are not going to have much of a difference, if any, by changing to an A2 stock. By nature, an upper with a 20" barrel is going to be heavy, thereby making the forward portion of the weapon to be heavy. Additionally, the more you add onto the upper, the more front-end heavy it will be. There is really no way to compensate for that other than taking weight off of the front end. You have a nice setup. I would not change anything. You just need more trigger time to get use to the configuration.

Have you handled a BCM ELW-F KMR13 upper?

Negative. But I have handled/ owned and still own one light upper if that counts?

You'd be amazed how much the weight of those covers is changing how the rifle feels.

You are already running an unusually heavy stock - the ACS-L ~30% heavier than the SOPMOD stock that OP is running.   (1.2lb with buffer tube vs. 0.9lb)

Heavy stock with a lightweight front end can make for a very nicely handling rifle. If OP want's to stick with his rail then he needs to go heavier on the stock which would be the UBR.

Switching to a full ACS stock, rather than the ACS-L would help.  I don't know how it compares in weight to what you have.  You can fill the two battery tubes and the trapdoor with useful things.

I have an ACS for the same reason.  I don't have your barrel, but I do need the storage, love the cheekweld, and it helps with balance when I run a bipod on my modular float rail.  I agree that a lighter modular rail will help quite a bit.

BTW, I only run a front grip when using a tape switch weapon light (the grip has a pocket for the switch).  Ditching the grip will help with balance, too.
