I have a 1-6x scope on my rifle right now kinda set up as a Recce but find that on the 1x setting my eyes don't like like it for bothering eyes open shooting.   So I'm looking at either doing

Qd optic mounts for my current scope and a small red dot
a second upper/rifle with the red dot on it
Or attaching a reflex sight to my current scope

Thoughts?

All of the above. When in doubt, buy them all if you can afford it.

Hard to go wrong with an offset T1.

If that's your only AR15, get a second upper.

Have you tried shooting a rifle with a red dot on it to see if you like shooting it with both eyes open?

This and buy a stripped lower........ build as you have funds likely to never see lowers this cheap again.

True.  This is one of my current setups.  The scope is a Leupold VX-R Patrol 3-9x40 mounted in a LaRue QD LT-104.  The right front ring is a LaRue LT-137 shelf holding a Burris Fastfire III.  That will be upgraded to a Leupold DeltaPoint Pro when released later this year.

This a good all around solution but is a bit heavy, even though the scope and reflex are both among the lightest in their category.

Hence the QD mount.  Remove and replace with a QD mount RDS for quick and light.

Remove and replace with a Burris Black Diamond 6-24x50 in LT-135 for load development or benchrest type precision.

You can be very versatile on the same upper.

LaRue mounts.   My go-to AR lives with an Aimpoint on it.   I have a NXS 1-4 that goes when I want.

Im fond of a RDS on a shorty SBR for CQB type stuff, its just so darn convenient and maneuverable.

ANY scoped rifle no matter what scope, needs either offset iron or an offset RDS

I have my scope in a Burris pepr qd mount right now  was thinking the cheaper option would be a Qd red dot
