Anyone have experience with CMMG? Do they produce good quality guns? Specifically I saw this over at Buds and it looked like a good value

Hit, or miss! Back in the day I got good stuff from them when everyone else was getting crap. Recently got crap from them when seemingly everyone else was getting good stuff. So, again, hit or miss! This is really specific. In the dark days when our options were Colt, DPMS, Oly, Bushmaster & Eagle Arms, CMMG stepped up at started selling products with features we wanted, like M4 feed ramps and 1:7 twist as lower than Colt prices. Initially their products were actually made by other companies to CMMG's specifications. But they were reasonably priced with features hard to find anyplace else. Since then the market has improved, standardization has trended towards milspec as a minimum acceptable standard. I wouldnt say CMMG declined. But other companies like BCM, Spikes, DD, LMT have stepped up. Even Colt has improved from those dark days. We are lucky today that things like 1:7, 5.56mm chambers, properly sized gas ports, full auto carriers, M4 feed ramps, MPI testing, ect have become commonplace. It wasnt always that way. |
| CMMG does have good customer service... A year or two ago they had some lowers go out that were out of spec and magazines would not drop free. Called them about mine, they sent me a shipping label and I sent it in. They confirmed that it was a bad lower and shipped me a new one. Every manufacturer can have a bad part slip by, but how they handle you after the sale is key. |

I have one of their 16" carbine barrels, 1:9 nitride. It is very accurate, close to one MOA with quality match ammo. I have one as well. Fit and finish are very good. Accuracy is impressive. I've had mine since 08 or 09 and it literally has not had a single jam or malfunction of any kind. I'd guess the round count is in the 5-7K range. I've since moved on to higher end rifles but wouldn't hesitate to buy or recommend another CMMG. |

Hit, or miss! Back in the day I got good stuff from them when everyone else was getting crap. Recently got crap from them when seemingly everyone else was getting good stuff. So, again, hit or miss! This is really specific. Chrome chambers so out of spec that factory ammo couldn't even fit the chamber. Reloaded ammo wouldn't fit either even after having been sized very specifically for those chambers. This is not just one time. Their CS is great, and everyone there is very respectful, and professional. But they would rather try to fix an out of spec part than just send you a new part. You do NOT re-ream an out of spec chrome chamber. It ruins the barrel for good, makes it a paper weight. After a couple months of dealing with re-reamed chrome chambers instead of new barrels. I had to ask for a refund, and they obliged. It was the biggest waste of money, and time that I have spent on AR's since I started with AR's in 2002! On the other hand. One of the first AR's I built used a 14.5" CMMG chromed 1:7 556 barrel, and it was the most reliable rifle I had ever laid my hands on up to that point. Very accurate too! I'd say if it were still 2003 - 2005 then yes I would buy from them. But today, absolutely not! ETA: My ventures with CMMG's out of spec chambers was around August/September 2014 time frame...... |

I have had nothing but REALLY good experiences with CMMG. I have been around since 2007 and back then they offered configurations that no one else did. Hell, they even offered up a medium contour mid gas Dissiaptor barrel when no one else did. They are a little pricey. but the trick is finding a vendor and going that route.
Back in 08 they fell behind during the panic and that pissed off a lot of people. They have had some growing pains, but I personally have not had any issues with them. For .22lr stuff, they are the top dogs. I had one of their earlier conversion kits and i shot the shit out of that thing. It broke and I contacted them. Sent it in and they straight up replaced it. So in my experience they stand behind their products. |
| I have had nothing but good service from CMMG products, have purchased LPK's, Rails and barrels that are all serving with zero issues. My latest 12.5" barrel In 300 Blackout shoots supersonic ammo into MOA groups at 100 yards, even the 8.5"" is surprisingly accurate? I have received several of their rails finding some marked and some not, since I do not hang junk on my rifles it is not an issue for me. |
