| hey guys im wondering if anyone knows of a company that makes melonited lowers? i just bought an upper from hardend arms and they melonited everything which is great but the coating makes the upper a darker black than most lowers. most i have seen are a mat black finish. i know i could have a lower coated but im hoping someone makes one that will match the color of my upper. also i dont want to mess with tolerances. if it comes already coated then i wont have to worry ...i hope lol |
| Not going to happen... lowers are aluminum and it won't hold up to the process. It would have to be a steel lower which wouldn't be practical. Its anodizing or paint for lowers. I doubt they melonited the aluminum upper. There are natural differences in the color of anodizing so sometimes it just comes out darker. The last colt lower i bought was darker and much more of a matte finish than one I bought last year... it just happens. |

It is a metal treatment. As everyone else stated, it's not going to work on aluminum. They likely have a slightly different anodizing process or that batch just came out dark. |

Anodizing comes in 50 shades of black. If your that upset with it spit on your lower then rub in some clp |

There is an older thread about coating receivers with DLC, which is almost as tough as melonite.
