My boys have been shooting my AR's for years.  Finally my oldest wanted one of his own.  We were at the local funshow yesterday and we saw what I thought was a pretty good buy but there was a line for checkout with the dealer and he had to get to work.

I told him we'd go back this morning and get it if it was still there.  I pretty much expected it to be gone, but it wasn't.  It's not the fanciest and I know DPMS doesn't have the best rep - but for the price it was hard to pass up since it had the features he wanted (rifle length, A1 style sights) which are not the easiest features to find these days.

The rifle is a NIB DPMS Panther A1 20" Lite...the price - $490 plus tax.  Been awhile since I've seen a production AR under $500 at a gunshow.

Now to get him out to the range :)

Congratulations. Nice AR. As a long time owner, DPMS has an excellent rep with me. Enjoy.

Thanks Khardriver...yeah I've owned many over the years.  Only had problems with one - a Recon .308 that had an overly tight chamber but that was easily enough fixed.  Earl

I hate DPMS with a passion, but $490 for a 20" is pretty darn tempting. Solid buy OP. Your boy will be happy.

Right on.  It was the same around here, my son has been shooting free-floated scoped or red dot equipped ARs around here for years, and I got him his own plain-jane Windham MPC during the great panic.  Timing is everything

He only recently added a red dot after 2 years of irons, and thousands of rounds.  He claims he is trying to find out the lifespan of a Windham barrel

Gorgeous!! Nothing holds a candle to a 20" AR in my mind, and I love the "C7" configuration!
