Well guys, it does not appear that the Radical Firearms 16" Mid Length, 1:7 Twist, SOCOM Contour, QPQ Melonite barrel I put on my Recce build is going to work out. I have shot three times with it now and I cannot get consistent accuracy from it. Cold bore shots are nicely grouped, but once the barrel gets warmer, the accuracy drops off. In light of this, and since it was cheap, I am going to replace it with a nice 16" SS mid-length barrel. Last night, I was looking at a Compass Lake RECON barrel (Douglas) and look to install a JP Tactical Compensator (Stainless) and a VLTOR Low Profile Gas Block GB-2SS (Stainless with set screws) or the Compass Lake Low Pro gas block in Stainless Steel. I will be giving Compass Lake a call this afternoon and talk to them about the barrel.

Thanks for the heads up and honest assessment of your example. I'm in the market for a Recce barrel also and I'm probably going to end up with another WOA or a RA medcon. I would like to save money like everyone else but in the big scheme of things $150 for maybe vs $270 for a sure thing isn't that big of a deal. But there is the enjoyment of putting one together and see what it will do just to tear it down and try something different.

The Radical Firearms barrel was only $65 on sale, so I am not out much money. It was worth the try. I will give a product the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise.

I bought the same one... I've only been to the range once just to do a quick test fire to see if it sent boolits down range.  Will have to go back once it warms up and see how accuracy is.

Looks like I may be going with a new stainless steel Compass Lake Douglas 16" RECON barrel and stainless steel gas block. It turns out that they are about two hours down the road from me.

ETA: I just broke down and order the new Compass Lake Eng./Douglas 16.1" 1/7 stainless steel barrel (polished) w/ Wylde .223 chamber and matching bolt, Compass Lake Eng. stainless steel low profile gas block, and mid-length gas tube.

Excellent choice.  I've been eyeing that barrel as well.
