Hey guys, I had a quick question for you. So I just picked up my first rifle a couple of days ago from the FFL in CA. I ordered the upper and lower separately from different companies to save money(which I did). However I have one small gripe about my lower. The safety selector doesn't click into place. It just slides when pressure is applied to it. Now, I really don't think that's safe first of all and second of all I'm trying to fix it. So here are my questions:

First, should I send the company that made it a complaint? It was a really cheap lower and I didn't have the highest expectations for it.

Second, should I just buy a new safety selector and replace it?

Third, if the answer to the second question is yes, do I need to buy anything else with it?

Thank you for your time!

It's possible that the safety selector detent was installed backwards. Carefully remove the hand grip, being careful not to loose the spring as you remove the grip. The detent will come out after the spring. Ensure that the pointy part of the detent goes into the hole first, so that it contacts the safety selector. The flat part of the detent should then contact the spring as you reinstall the grip.

Let me know. It should take 30 seconds or so to check it out and reinstall it all.

Well unfortunately the longest 3/16" allen wrench I own isn't long enough to actually unscrew the pistol grip. So it may take 2 days for me to go out and buy one since tomorrow(technically today) is Christmas. I'll get back to you asap though, thank you for your help!

I have some of each, depends on which LPK  was used. I prefer to swap to the shcs if I have to disassemble for any reason. My local Sears Hardware has them in stock (1/4x28x1) for about $0.24 each and no shipping.

See?!?!?  This is a good excuse to buy a set of hex head sockets and a nice 1/4 drive ratchet, extension bars and u-joints.  MIght need a couple of good flashlights and a headlamp as well.

I have a selector that does not click either, but you can feel it solidly go into position. It is quiet and I consider this a benefit, especially since it is on my Mk12 Mod 0. BTW, the safety detent is in correctly on mine. I had to check immediately after I noticed the difference. The lower was a replacement for the former lower I had on the rifle. I installed a new LPK in the new lower.

Either the detent is installed backwards, or if it's an ambidextrous selector, the selector is installed with the detent groove on the left side (should be on the right side).

Also, check for a burr in the selector detent hole that prevents the detent from fully engaging the selector.  I saw that once.

Never seen a selector detent /lower/ grip that would allow a detent to be installed backwards. The safety would also try to fall out when the hammer was cocked

The detent hole doesn't have to be far out of position to cause a mushy selector. If it's not centered in the hole or too close to the outside of the lower it will not engage the selector properly. If the counter bore isn't deep enough it will not fully engage the selector either. There's a number of possibilities you will have to look for.

+1
There are a number of possibilities, but upside down will not retain the selector.
In the past I have seen a number of soft detents that would immediately get the tip wiped off.

Hey guys! Sorry to keep you waiting so long, but I contacted the company and they sent out a new detent and when I took out the old detent to install the new one, here's what it looked like:

I honestly don't know how that happened, but all I know is that I'm glad that I got a new one and the safety is now working perfectly. Thank you all for your help!
