| I've settled down to the idea that I'm getting an 11.5 BCM KMR upper, along with an ambi charging handle. The only problem is I can't figure out which variant is best. I recall that the downsides to light weight is that more recoil and it heats up faster (although I figure that's more an issue with FA, but it could be with a lot of training in SA too). I'd prefer a LW one, but I just want to make sure I know what the benefits and trade offs of a LW and LW fluted upper are. LW Fluted is the most money about 100 more and Normal Weight is the cheapest. |

Just go with the standard LW.......You will be glad you did. All barrels heat up if you do a quick ammo dump.......the good thing about the LW barrel is its going to cool down faster as well. I have (14.7") "Gov't Profile" barrels, 16" (M4) carbine barrels, and lightweight 14.5" barrels... all permanently attached flash hiders making them 16.25". The Light Weight barrels are my favorite of the bunch for their light weight and easy wielding. And they are almost every bit as accurate as an old Colt H-Bar that was a tack driver I had and shouldn't have sold. That H-bar was an exception NOT the rule in accuracy. |
| In light of one of my recent posts I'd recommend you get the standard weight. The lightweight barrels are great if you're going to be shooting an all day long carbine class but if you want faster follow up shots I'd say go standard. If you plan on suppressing it, standard would be the way to go as it heats the gun up faster as well.. |
