Is there any difference between a 1/8 twist polygonal rifled barrel and a 1/8 twist standard rifled barrel when it comes to the bullet weight they like for precision shooting?
Do polygonal barrels like the ones from Black Hole Weaponry offer any REAL advantages over high quality precision barrels with normal rifling? |

Good question, and I think you're only going to get a lot of theory on this.
One school of thought is that the polygonal, and to a lesser extent 5R, barrels deform the bullet less as it grips the rifling. Fewer marks and deformation on the bullet give the wind fewer angles and features to grab onto to affect the bullet as it goes downrange. The counter to that is that most of the deformation is elastic anyways and goes away after leaving the bore. Even if it didn't, the deformations won't make a significant effect relative to the effect of the wind. In other words, the difference between 11 mph and 12 mph wind will be much greater than the extra deformation you get on a standard barrel. This is only one aspect of the polygonal vs standard debate and really only matters at long range. |

This is a great question. Just read the Wiki article and according to them its not quite as accurate, but still very good. There a couple "know-it-all's" that will be coming shortly to tell you things they don't know...suggest researching yourself and letting us know what you find out.

Comes clean faster with no sharp edges. Just as accurate, not sure about moreso but easily equal. |
