Howdy (new guy here) - just received my new Colt 6721. Had to send it back to Colt as after I received it from my FFL it had this mishap on it. It had been on layway for near 3 months and after final payment was shipped. Took receipt after a quick look at it, but didn't notice the problem. Colt has it now and said it would be about 2 weeks before they can assess and go from there - do y'all think it is fixable, or how good is Colt's customer service on something like this....anyway - proud to finally own an AR (1st one) and look forward to shootin' it at the range - soon I hope http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj281/pagnew/Coltreceiver_zpsa54c1a65.png Glad to meet ya ... |

I would have asked for a new lower to be sent and swapped the LPK myself. This would have been the fastest route most likely I don't know what world you guys live in that a manufacturer would do this
Too much liability and it would completely void your warranty. And it would have to be transferred through an FFL since it's not yours that they're sending back to you. And it would preclude them from determining how it happened. Yadda yadda yadda... I'd bet next year's salary that a company would never do that. OP, sorry, not sure what caused that, might have even been guys at the store. I'd have kept it because it's not "broken", so to speak, and I'm antisocial and hate dealing with people or waiting for my stuff

A manufacturer can replace a defective firearm and ship it directly to you without using an FFL. The ATF allows this for warranty reasons. Over the years I've done it with several different brands. Now the part about Colt sending the replacement lower out first I don't think will ever happen. |

Not sure if you're serious or not but, Colt isn't really known to put an extreme emphasis on fit and finish IMO. |

Yeah I know colt couldn't care less, its one reason I won't buy one but i have nothing against those who do, they are otherwise solid weapons. |

I'm ok with a scratch or ding here and there. But I would not accept that. Sure the, the lower is fine, but whoever assembled that needs to get laid and should have reported that. They would have to have been a dumbass not to see it.
I've seen a $2200 2 Vets Arms rifle that someone fucked up the bolt catch area similar to OPs. But it also had one of the worst hydro dip I have ever seen. It took 4 months of begging the manager to send it back. |

Welcome to the hive. Sorry bout ur rifle. Colt should fix you up and you will have a very nice rifle. And the guys at the shop are your most likely candidates. How could they have done that short of taking a punch to it themselves? |

THANK YOU ALL for your input - the rifle was in the original box and plastic sheath, but it wasn't sealed. I did not get a chance to inspect the rifle before hand as this was an internet buy from a very large gun shop of which I had done business before and had not had any issues. When I called them they said that since I had already taken receipt from the FFL I would have to deal with Colt directly. Colt said to send it back to them so I am waiting to see what they do. I understand that scratches and dings happen, but since this is my first AR and a Colt at that I figured I'd try and see if this can be remedied. We'll see...
Again, thanks for y'alls input |

OK - it may be Friday the 13th I just spoke with a very cordial CS rep from Colt and have been advised that Colt is going to take care of it via warranty and a letter was sent by USPS to me stating that as well - it will take about 4-6 weeks. Pretty Will update once I get my rifle back, until then....take care and I appreciate y'alls responses |

I know Colt's QC and fit and finish have gone south in the last few years but that defect is unbelievable. I can't imagine how it would leave the factory like that. What makes you assume it left the factory like that? And to call it a "fit and finish" issue is ridiculous. That is clearly damage. |

I suspect during the 3 months it was in the gun shop someone was fucking around with your rifle and dropped it. Good luck and keep us updated on your situation. |

I don't believe it is possible to drop a rifle and cause that damage to that specific point and nowhere else on the rifle. And the return time the OP quoted from Colt is a little long for my thinking of good CS. I'm glad Colt is doing the right thing. I also think that gun left the Colt factory like that & Colt knows it. Thats the only reason Colt is making it right. Pretty sad Colt QC has gotten this bad....makes you think Colt is no longer in the top tiers of AR manufacturers... John |

John From what I have seen in this forum over the past few years it does appear there are some "flyers" leaving Colt from time to time. Funny thing is I have been drinking the Kool-Aid for decades and the fit and finish have always been flawless by any standard. That being said a firearms manufacturer will often "make things right" even if they know they did not cause the issue. I have had three major manufacturers give/replace weapon parts for free. In one case I told them up-front I lost the parts while cleaning it- they were replaced for free. In another case I flat out told them I broke the part and just wanted to buy a new one- it showed up free in my mailbox. I was watching this thread for the Colt response, and as expected it was taken care of- regardless of where it happened. The condition was certainly unacceptable, and I understand about the buying on-line. I have never been, nor will I ever be in the "drag it down your driveway camp". Please understand the words you chose make it seem like you have an axe to grind with Colt. The truth will only be ever known to you. You conclude Colt QC has gotten this bad and they are no longer a top-tier manufacturer. I shall conclude that is your opinion. We all know about opinions. I heard Wally World is now carrying DPMS rifles- got a text from a buddy yesterday saying there was one there for under $700. |

Seems like I remember another guy who posted a picture of his Colt that looked very similar. As I remember his wasn't quite as bad as yours. My point is that it isn't a one in a million mistake. And I don't remember what, if anything Colt did for him. Yeah I remember that thread,My 6920 is boogerd up there as well although only a small gouge.Out of the ten I have built none are like that but im non union. |
|
OP,
Welcome to the AR club and congrats on the purchase! Yea that's not a minor scratch and I would've sent it back as well. I'm glad that Colt is making it right without a problem. I'm sure it stinks having to wait another few weeks but hey, now you have something to look forward to again! |
| This is getting crazy. Every week it seems we see pictures if someones banged up "new" colt in this forum. What kind of crap are they putting out at the moment? And why are people still reccomending this rifle to newbies when there are so many quality ARs out there right now? |
