The Recce concept always caught my eye because it was one rifle that could do it all, from 5 yards to 500 yards, and do decent job. I wanted a do-all rifle because I knew I could only afford one. I built my first AR which turned into a Recce when I was 20 and in college. I remember waiting 6 months for my lower from Stag because it was right after President Obama was elected. The rifle was a DTI HBAR upper on a Stag lower, fitted with some MI FF rails, and topped with a Millett DMS-1. At the time to me, this rifle was the coolest thing in the world and was "done".

Fast forward 5 years, a few paychecks, and a couple of revisions later, I finally assembled this one today. I won't bore you with the specs, but I can assure you it's on a completely different level than my first one. Lots of Geissele and Surefire, and a bit of KAC, LWRC, BCM, LMT, and DD, plus some other miscellaneous parts. I can call this one "done" for now after having shot a Recce layout all these years. I wonder what I'll think of it in 5 years?

So what did your first ARs look like versus what they do now? Please post them.

Good looking rifle man.  Please don't hate me.........I hate the Elcan.  Don't get me wrong, I know it's top of the line and probably gorgeous to look through.  But damn that thing just looks out of place on everything I've seen them on.  Well hell, function is what count's anyway right?

Damn nice rifle though.

What's the point of the Aimpoint forward of the upper receiver?

What's the point of your BUIS so far forward on the upper receiver?

I am confused...

I'll take a guess, probably to use the rear sight to help correct astigmatism ?  That is the only reason I had my rear sight as close as possible to my RDS

Maybe it balances better up there, maybe he shoots w/ both eyes open & prefers the FOV around the scope, maybe he has a NV unit he drops on the upper.  The only issue w/ moving the rear BUIS forward is he's shortening his sight radius, but mid bbl rear sights have been popular for more than 100 years.  Why do you have your red dot & BUIS to the rear?  B/c you've always seen it done that way?

Nice stick OP, and others.

Well one thing is for sure.. those dishes arent going to wash themselves (kidding.. I dont give a shit one way or the other)

here are my first and last, I realize the mount is backwards on the .308 I was experimenting on scope /stock position.
I always favored the RECCE setup.. even before I knew the setup had a name

You guys over at KAC need to start shipping out rifles again.
