I picked up a RRA tactical entry and a Knights Armament M$ RAS with the idea of making a M4 clone.  When I went to install the RAS I found the RRA R4 profile was "heavy" under the hand guard and the RAS wouldn't fit.  I didn't want to half ass the RAS with a Dremel do I decided to just add MOE furniture and left it at that.  Now I want to get back to the M4 clone build and was wondering if the Colt LE6920 was "light weight" and will Knights M4 RAS will fit on it without modification?

The Colt website wasn't helpful.

The 6920 barrel is M4/government profile; mid-weight, not LW.

The RAS will fit on an M4 profile barrel but it will also fit on a Colt SOCOM (heavy) barrel.

I am not familiar with RRA's barrels, but it seems odd that it is bigger/heavier than a SOCOM barrel.

I'm not sure what the diameter is but it is thick,  I'll put a micrometer on it tomorrow.

The RRA barrels are too thick for the RAS. They are heavier profile than the SOCOM. At least, that's how our Entry Tactical and Elite CARs were.

I installed a RAS on a buddy's rifle, and we had to use a dremel to remove a small amount of material from the front mounting mechanism (grey piece) on the KAC RAS. Since install, he's had zero issue with the modified setup.

Here's a photo showing the area we had to use the dremel on.

ETA: spelling and such

I figured it had to be a flange on one or the other that wasn't clearing.

My KAC M4 RAS rails fits on my Colt 6721 HBAR heavy profile barrel without any mod.

The outer diameter of my Colt HBAR barrel behind the FSB is 0.845" and from the middle of the handguards up to the chamber end it's 0.950".

The KAC M4 RAS rails also fits my other Colt 6920 with government profile M4 barrel which is about 0.600" to 0.625" outer dia. behind the FSB, it is 0.670" near the chamber.

IIRC, it's RRA and Stag heavy M4 barrels that are primarily incompatible with the KAC RAS.

As Alpha-Romeo3 showed, they fit fine on Colt HBARs.

IIRC, the M4 RIS should fit an RRA barrel, however.

Thanks for the info guys. I sold the tactical entry upper and bought a mid length.  Now I have an excuse to get the 6920...just need to save up another 300 bux.
