First off, I apologize if this post is in the wrong spot.  I'm still getting acquainted with the site.

*This is specific to the four little screws that hold my H-1 to my LaRue QD mount, not the mount to the rail.*

I Loctited the screws that hold my H1 scope and LaRue mount together.  A few weeks later I decided to unscrew and separate the H-1 and mount to do some tooling w/ other parts.

Eventually, I returned the H-1 to the LaRue and reattached to my rifle after re-Loctiting; however, I did not clean the screws of the old Loctite before I applied the new stuff.  What I'm wondering is will that compromise the hold?  I haven't shot it yet.  I'm using the Blue 242.

The guys at LaRue told me it should hold just fine.  The guys at Loctite said to remove the screws, clean them, and reapply.

Any advice, experience, or suggestions?

It will probably work just fine but why settle for "probably".  I would take the time to remove the screws and remove the previous loctite residue.  What i do is hold the head of a screw with a vice grip, heat up the threads/loctite with a lighter and then use a stiff brush (or even a tooth brush) to clean the threads.  This has worked very well for me in the past and then i will reapply loctite and install screws.  Necessary? Probably not but it makes me feel better.

I wouldn't worry about it too much.  Go out and run a few hundred rounds through it, then re-check.  If it's still tight, then you're gtg.  I've reapplied loctite a ton of times and never had an issue.

If that's all it took to fuck the pooch -- we'd have a lot of puppies.

Locktite is pretty forgiving, obviously it would be better if you had cleaned the threads. Even better would be using the Locktite Primer prior to the application. But as our perceptual victim says, "Ain't nobody got time for dat."

By the way, LaRue offered to send me new screws for free :).  Best company out there as far as customer satisfaction in my book.

Not a surprise, they take care of people like that all the time.

Make sure you clean the threads in the optic too.  I find that most loctite appears to hold the screw, not the optic or the female thread, so a q-tip pulled out and shoved in there with good degreaser has worked well for me.

MAKE SURE YOU DEGREASE THE LARUE SCREWS FIRST.  You'll take off a ton of black gunk.  I've literally seen people apply loctite straight to the screws without cleaning first, hurts my soul.

Can someone post pics of their loctite?  When I was at Wally the other day, I saw a bunch of different kinds of Loctite.  I am wanting to know which is the one everyone on here uses?

For something I might want to take off eventually, I use Loctite 242 which is a blue color.  For something I want to be permanent (can still be removed but requires more effort), I use Loctite 271 which is a red color.  Both come in many different applicator styles.

If it is Blue you are ok, if it is red, good luck. Optics and heat don't work well together.

242 blue or 222 purple is for small screws. You will be fine just reapplying. I use the stuff everyday.

Thanks for the help, gentleman and, dare I say, gentlewomen!

Perfection got the best of me; so I unscrewed, soaked the screws in acetone, used a toothpick to get at the grooves, and then re-Loctited.  The acetone worked well, but a good 30 minutes of soaking and scrubbing was necessary.  The Loctite that I applied without cleaning the screws broke away just normal; so in the future, I don't think it's really necessary to clean the screws before re-Loctiting; however, it makes me all tingly knowing that I redid it the way it's supposed to be done.  I had never heard of new screws needing to be cleaned before Loctiting like the above poster said, but I will heed his words in the future, as advice is always appreciated.

I was unable to clean the receiving end other than poking a paper clip in there.  The holes are tiny; so a Q-tip was out of the question.  Doubt it will matter much.  If there's any problems I could always just use red Loctite since it's a mount/scope combo anyway, and hopefully, they'll be paired for a long time.

Have a wonderful night!
