| I'm new to the ar-15 scene. I want to save my money and buy one. I was wondering what caliber would be the best for me. I plan on hunting with it. Coyote and deer. And target practice. I have no idea. I'm looking for some advice and guidance. Thank you. |

Dependent upon state laws as the above poster stated, I would go with 5.56.
Seen a few buddies take deer with theirs at ranges out to about 100-125 yards. Really depends on the ammo used. 69gr SMK blew a fist sized chunk out the backside of one. Bonded JSP like Federal Fusion tend to work really well too. |
| Like other said check your state laws. If 5.56 or .223 is legal for deer I would go with that. Making sure to use a heavier grain bonded round when hunting. If not you may look into the more expensive AR10 .308 that would allow you to hunt just about anything breathing in North America. |

Quoted: A 5.56 gun can shoot both Quoted: Quoted: I know that the 223 and 556 are almost the same. I know one can shoot both but one cant. Which one can shoot both? A 5.56 gun can shoot both A .223 Wylde chamber can also shoot both - Just to further confuse the Op ...Get a rifle chambered in 5.56 with either 1/7 or 1/8 rifling. These 2 types of rifling are the most common. Also the TN regs say you can use a suppressor, but can't have any flashlights/lights capable of attracting game. Oh, and no full-auto... |
