I have changed my mind on what direction I want to go thanks to the help of the local gun shop owner. I originally wanted a stainless steel barreled AR that would weigh close to ten pounds (Stag model 6). When I went into the shop today the owner suggested that I take a closer look at the S&W MP15 Sport and Windham Weaponry SRC because they would be much better if I needed to shoot offhand and because most shots in this area are going to be close to 100 yds max. He also sells Stag but did not have any in. All three seem to be extremely similar. I am not a big fan of any of the handguards on the three but I know I can change them down the road. I know whichever one I choose will be scoped. My question is, are one of these better than the other? The Windham is $100 more than the S&W ($725.00). I did not get a price on the Stag. Primary use for this is going to the range, hunting coyotes and woodchucks and whatever varmint gets in my crosshairs.

I'd buy the Spikes but the PSA is a hell of a deal your guy wants to much for that Smith and Windham buy online and pay the small transfer fee you'll source more rifle for your money.........Good luck

Thank you for the replies so far.

I have looked into building. Looking at prices for lowers and uppers though for what I want, I could come out spending about the same as one that is already built.

The Spikes is the same price as the Windham. I will have to look into it though. What does the Spikes have that is better than the Windham? I do want at least a 16" barrel without the muzzle device pinned in case I decide to suppress it at some point and I am not planning on moving to CA so I do not need a CA compliant rifle.

I am seriously looking hard at building a rifle the way I want. I will start with a complete lower from Spikes. What would be a good complete upper that would suit my needs? I am sure I am going to want some type of muzzle device.
