Hi, I'm wondering if someone can help me understand what's going on with a new build. A buddy of mine put it together and I got it in a trade. First the details, it's a Spikes upper, new WOA 18" SPR barrel, and I'm using a BCM gunfighter CH. I've done this with several different PMags, and with both Hornady ZMax and PMC 193 X-Tac ammo, same results. Here's what's happening:

The rifle seems to function flawlessly when firing, I've put about 100 rounds through it at this point, no jams, bolt locks back on empty mag, no issues whatsoever. But, when I go to clear the chamber if I don't empty the mag, the CH is REALLY stiff, as in I have to basically yank the piss out of it to cycle the bolt. On an empty chamber, it cycles very smoothly. I've tried this with mag inserted and with no mag, same results. After doing this about 7 or 8 times the stiffness goes away a little. But a few days later it will be stiff again, just as before.

I did search this issue before creating the post, and I saw mostly answers saying to run a few hundred rounds through it to break it in. I can live with that, but I was hoping someone would explain where the problem is. I've looked everything over and can't find any unusual wear marks, and the CH looks to be ok. Anyone have any thoughts or advice on this? Thanks.

Normal. Clean the chamber heavily and it should help some. Tight chamber.

This would be my guess as well. Do you know what type of chamber the WOA barrel has? My buddy who used a Douglas barrel with the Wylde .223 chamber was having the same issues but, after a few hundred rounds, it loosened up enough to where it isn't an issue anymore.

Thanks guys. Yes, it does have a Wylde chamber, so I guess that makes sense. I'll clean it and shoot it as you've both suggested and see what happens.

It's happened with Hornady ZMax, which is 223, and PMC 193 X-Tac ammo, which is 5.56.

I have a Wylde chamber as well in my 18" SPR Rainier Arms barrel and have same issue but only with Independence ammo. The ammo shoots fine but I have to kick the bolt open (literally) to eject an un-fired chambered round. I've shot all sorts of other ammo including steel Tula and Wolf and Independence is the only ammo to give me that issue.

Huh, well there goes my theory. Keep shooting and hopefully it will get wore in.
Good luck!
