I recently purchased this kit and curious of the quality of each component. Are all of the parts premium and have been tested through all milspec standards? Am I receiving the best parts PSA makes, just in a kit?
Is the bolt premium with MP/HPT/Shot peened? What is the quality of the low-profile gas block? Are all of the components 7075 or 158? Thanks in advance. |
|
The bolt is the only thing that's usually 158. Uppers and lowers are usually 7075. All the parts in that kit look good to go! It's not their budget line P-TAC, unknown manufacturer barrel, etc.
Gas block is most likely a MI unit since the tube is MI. Edit: Gas block could also be Yankee Hill as they use a lot of their forearms. |

I bought my carbine before PTAC stuff came out, It's taken a whippin and given me no issues. You will be satisfied with the quality That's what I'm hoping for. I took a shot with PSA as a newer competitor and expect to be impressed. (Not in an entitled way) Is the M4A1 16" profile aka as the SOCOM profile? I don't care as I can't afford a Block II clone, I'm just curious. I'm sure I'll ask some other basic things, but I really appreciate your responses. |

Yea, I plan on buying that. Shouldn't bash too many heads, but may mortar the rifle to clear a malfunction. I really hope the BCG/Bolt isn't the cheaper version. Quoted:

They do sell a 7075 "premium" extension tube though. Yea, I plan on buying that. Shouldn't bash too many heads, but may mortar the rifle to clear a malfunction. I really hope the BCG/Bolt isn't the cheaper version. I have that exact upper with a variable optic and it shoots right around MOA with the right ammo ( as long as I dont screw up the shot). Runs like a clock ..I did change out the gasblock to an adjustable SLR model but that is mostly because I cant leave well enough alone. The bolt carrier that came in my kit is etched with the PSA logo on it and the bolt is marked HPT/MPI. A co-worker ordered a premium kit from P.S.A that was not CHF anf came with a BCG that was not marked. Besides the etching I could not tell the difference between his bolt or mine as far construction goes and his bolt was also marked hpt/mpi. |

I doubt they would mix premium bolt with standard BCG. They do sell premium BCG with no logos though, so hopefully that means it is the premium in your friends kit too. |

Thats it right there, exactly like my friend's. His bolt and mine are identical, the only difference I could see was the lack of the logo etching. |

So in theory, I should receive the premium BCG + Bolt. I hope it has the etched logo to appease my OCD. Quoted:

So in theory, I should receive the premium BCG + Bolt. I hope it has the etched logo to appease my OCD. If you get the bolt marked HPT/MPI and your gas key is properly staked I would venture to say your pretty safe as far as getting a quality BCG. I like to have an extra BCG on hand anyway. This site has an excellent priced BCG ( $107 shipped if you dont live in Texas) for sale now in the "Store" and Rainier Arms has a sale going on now for their excellent "Phosphate BCG" at $109. Before you sell it, fire off some rounds in that rifle. Use some 69g and up OTM , if yours is anything like mine you will get sub- moa 5 round groups. Should be pretty easy to sell with a posted target if you decide to sell it anyway. I had come across this post by a P.S.A rep a few months back: Post#85 Our PSA BCG (the one with our logo laser etched into it) has a tested bolt in it. Each one is individually tested. These are the BCG that ship with our complete uppers. The generic "M16 BCG" we sell that does not have our logo may or may not have a tested bolt in it. They may or may not be marked as being tested even if they are. If they are tested they may have been individual or batch tested. They are still Carpenter 158 steel bolts. We make no claim on them as being tested. I bought their CHF 16" upper package Labor Day Madness sale 2012 and it came with the premium BCG, he should be ok. Their running either marked or unmarked ones on sale this week and I expect they'll do it again before the end of the year unless something stupid happens like last year. I'm hoping they do a Cyber Monday sale that same kit, or just the upper with BCG and handle. I've a PSA build kit here and passed on the FN barreled upper during the week because I was hoping for a CHF barreled one Friday...no luck there. |

That is a nice kit. If you want the 7075 tube just get a Spikes from Aim and sell the other on EE.
You probably should get a forward hand grip and possible some panels for the hand guard. |

| I to have a PSA premium kit built. not carbine length. It is a middy, and I am very pleased with it. I mated it to a Stag lower and the fit and finish is second to non. The chrome lined, hammer forged, 1:7 twist barrels are built by FN. They are pretty damn good barrels for the money. The BCG is a premium unit as well, some are stamped... some are not. Mine is not stamped with the logo, but has the proper marks and stakes. I have only put 600 rounds down the pipe to date, but not one problem with it. I have not tried any steel case ammo yet, and don't foresee doing it unless just to test it out and see if it works. I reload my usable brass. The more I shoot it the better it shoots, I only make a single pass with a bore snake when I clean it and the barrel looks like a mirror inside. Shoots very tight groups at 100m, and has been getting better with use. Next time out I may try some match ammo on the 200m range. |

I know they sell some without logos, so that wouldn't be a defining feature to tell them apart. I've heard some people say that premium rifle kits came with a premium BCG, while others say it does not. |
