Problem:
Went shooting a while ago but never got around to posting the problem or pics and now I finally have some time. My BCM eats 62 grain m855 ball like its nothing, however when I switched over to some .223 55 grain prvi partizan the spent case would not extract. This happened every time on the first shot with the prvi. There was no audible pop just standard bang and perceived recoil. After clearing the casing with a cleaning rod, upon inspection it appears as though the extractor shears off a small chunk of the lip of the casing. I tried different mags (USGI and PMAG) all the same. I switched back to the federal and she ran like charm. I ALWAYS lube before firing and always clean right after a shoot finishing with a light coat before the rifle gets put away. This happened once before (cant remember the ammo) but it was after a long day of shooting and I assumed it was just fouling. I wish I had paid more attention now and will do so more in the future. Specs: BCM 14.5in upper with pinned A2X flash hider & BCM bolt Carbine length gas system Mounted on a RRA lower with milspec standard buffer and spring Considering: bolt upgrade as well as maybe a heavy buffer and spring (not too sure about this yet) I know BCM has a great reputation in quality and customer service because I have experienced both from them however I am puzzled and wondering if anyone has a similar experience or suggestions. I have no problem shooting m855 as its great ammo but most indoor ranges wont allow it because its steel penetrator. I have pictures and will probably put them up but it takes a minute to go through photobucket. Thanks in advance gentlemen. " />

Was that brass case ammo?
I have similar problem with AR pistol; 10.5" carbine gas system. It rips the rim off the steel case due to being over gassed. With good brass ammo it works fine. That is about the worst case scenario (I hope that is not the you have problem) the fix is adjustable gas block. Or shoot the good stuff for ammo. |

No they were both brass cased ammo. In fact I have only ever put steel through my AR once and it was wolf. Oddly enough the same thing happened - round fired but case did not extract. First and last time steel went near my AR.

What buffer are you running? Have you checked your extractor? That kit isnt really an upgrade to what you have, just a replacement
I'd start with heavier buffer. You might just need to slow the cycle down a little. Might be that the brass Prvi uses is slightly softer than the federal and needs a little longer before extraction Of course I have no idea what I'm talking about so take it with a grain of salt

The extractor looks fine and there's no real evidence of scarring or abnormal wear. Im googling "BMC bolts and ar15.com" to see what people are saying. I think I will go for the H or H2 buffer and maybe look a little more into different buffer springs. |

The h2 buffer should slow things down and let the casing release from the chamber walls before the bolt rips it out |

if you had problems extracting 2 very different types of ammo, its the gun. call bcm The federal had no problem extracting just the prvi. In fact the federal ran flawlessly. |
