I am working on building my first lower.  So far everything is going well.  This forum is a great resource.

The purpose of this lower is for fun shooting / target work.  It has a Timney 3 lbs trigger.

The only part I am not sure I like at this stage is the grip.  I have not shot the lower yet so the jury is out, but it is a large size ergogrip.

I have a large hand and like the grip, but I thought this grip would make the distance between the web of my thumb/hand to the trigger longer.  But, when I grip the pistal grip, I still feel like my hand is too far forward, i.e. close to the trigger.  It is better than to 'stock' grips, but I wish the part where the web of my thumb sits was further back.  I almost want to build this area up with layers of tape, but that would look like hell.

Does anyone have any input on this issue and thoughts on finger alignment on the trigger in relation to the grip dimensions?  Anyone know of other pistol grips that my place my trigger finger further back?  Thanks.

BTW, tonight I am going to install  the buffer tube and stock !!

I'm just like you, I like grips that move my trigger finger back further. So far my favorite is the Magpul MIAD with the large backstrap, and the Larue looks like it might be even better:

Also consider the Stark grips and CAA/First Samco G27.

I agree on the MIAD recommendation, which I also run with the large backstrap.  It comes with a bunch of different inserts to customize size and configuration.  You're bound to find a combo that works well for you  Top notch quality, too.

I would also check out the UTG tactical ergo grip if you have large hands. It has a swell along the right side that helps position the finger more evenly. Really works, though only really for rather large hands.

This is what I mean

If you need an FDE one, pm me. It was a bit too large for me.

For your first grip get a MIAD.  Try all three back straps and two front straps until you find something you like.  If you decide you hate it, you can sell it on the EE for nearly what you paid for it.

I'm going to be moving into the BCM MOD3's for my SBR builds. In general, it is more comfortable of an angle for stocks close to collapsed or collapsed. It also is a pretty big palm swelled grip.

When a old 18B told me to hold his rifle back in 2003, which had a Samco G27. That became my favorite grip, the thing feels so damn natural and comfortable.

Ha.  That looks like an elephant.  It does look a bit longer though.

Thanks for everyone's replies.  I will check out some of those grips.   I am going to try putting many layers of tape (or other stuff) on the top back of the grip to build it up and see how I like it.  I could leave it, although it would look bad, but I can test it out that and see if my groups tighten up.

I have a picture but not a hosting service.  Wish I could upload from my computer or dropbox. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/18501912/photo.JPG
Oh wait, I think this works.

I did make at least one mistake that I know of but it is not too bad.  Do you think the silver pins look bad?
