| I got a spikes heavier buffer today for one of my recent builds. I took it out an put a few rounds threw it an it failed to pick up a shell out of the magazine once. I was wondering if having a heavier buffer in the rifle could cause any problems. Thanks for any feed back guys. |

On BCM's website (don't know what type of rifle you have) but on BCM's website they state....."we run H buffers on all our rifles but make sure you feed it good MIL SPEC pressured ammo.
I only use 5.56 and use standard H buffer and haven't had any issues whatsoever. |
| It could be the ammo, but I think more than likely it is the buffer. I have wanted to experiment with a new buffer in the interest of reducing a little felt recoil and just producing a smoother cycling AR. I have read nothing but rave reviews about this buffer from Spikes tacical http://www.spikestactical.com/new/ss/lower-parts-spikes-st9bs-stt2-combo-9mm-p-235.html I am going order one this week and I will let you know how it turns out! |

Guessing weak ammo, or small gas port, i bet you can pour some shot/powder/whatever out to make it lighter. I have an ST-T2 in my carbine 16" and it's ridiculously smooth and cycles fine with M855 to below minimum handloads, haven't tried tula or any other notoriously weak ammo.

This question might belong in the variants forum because there are different length buffer tubes and buffers in .308/7.62x51 ARs. |

Do you have a rifle or carbine receiver extension? make sure you are using the matching buffer. carbine buffer w/ carbine extension / rifle buffer w/ rifle extension. |

Did you put a "Spikes Heavier Buffer" into a .308 AR, with a rifle length receiver extension and spring? Still not sure what buffer you truly have, and what rifle, receiver extension you have. |
| Sorry I didn't mean to say 150 I was buying hunting shells when I typed that. Its a 5.56/223 an 55gr American eagle rounds. I cleaned the gas block, gas tube an the bolt. The bolt had a really thick grease on it. After I cleaned everything good I took it out an run 60 rounds threw it no problems. It doesn't have a extension tube on it. |

Uh, you should have an extension tube on it unless the bolt contains the recoil assembly. That "extension tube" you are referring to is known as a receiver extension or also called a "buffer tube". There are 2 types of receiver extensions. One is for rifle (usually fixed stock), and one is for carbine (usually collapsible stocks). Find out which one you have. Better yet, take some picture of your AR and post it here. |
