| I have been learning more and more about these guns. Have a dumb question. I keep seeing where you can buy a full auto bolt carrier group. I'm not trying or wanting to make my gun automatic. Just curious as what these are for. There is obviously something else that needs done to make it automatic. |

A full auto bolt carrier group just describes the profile of the carrier. It has a lug on the bottom that will trip the auto sear of a fully automatic rifle. The "semi auto" carrier groups do not have this lug. Both are fully legal to own and run in your ar. Most guys love the full auto carrier for a couple of reasons:
1.) They are typically heavier so most people like to run them to help keep the gun cycling smooth when it is over gassed. 2.) It is milspec and everything milspec is supposedly better

| ... the advantage of using a M16 carrier for me, was that you get a shrouded firing pin... some of the commercial carriers are under cut just below the firing pin, so that when the bolt carrier is in recoil,the entire cocking force applied by the carrier to the hammer bears on the firing pin... I had excessive wear on the shoulder of the firing pin on my Colt... there are pics somewhere in the forum... the rear of the carrier has more material so it is heavier than an AR carrier |
