I have a M4 carbine build I am working on. I have a 16" 1/7 twist barrel that I will be using that has a carbine length gas system. I wanted to know if an adjustable gas block will allow me to tune the gas sytem to decrease the recoil impulse and still functional well, or does it make more sense to put in a different recoil spring to decrease felt recoil.

Also any recommendations on adjustable gas blocks?

Gas block is the best way to go.

It will allow you to tune the rifle perfectly.

Research and you'll find plenty of recommendations.

If you are wanting an adjustable gas block, I would do some research on the one by SLR Rifleworks due to incorporating a detent. Since people have commented that an adjustable gas block that doesn't make use of a detent makes keeping the different adjustments when going back and forth inconsistent.

I have a Syrac Arms Mid length upper with adjustable gas block. I believe that Syrac was started by Jason Adams and the adjustable gas block on my rifle was his design. It uses an Allen wrench to hold down a detent. while another Allen is used to adjust the gas flow.
