| just currently got my first midlenth and curious as to what the hype is with this gas system? |

Here's links to the usual dupe-ish "midlength vs carbine" etc threads: http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=118&t=425211 http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=118&t=435853&page=1 |

Longer sight radius and lower chamber pressure "Chamber pressure" is a little misleading and way over simplified. Gas system length doesn't affect chamber pressure. A longer gas tube on a given length of barrel delays unlocking which usually means that chamber pressures are lower when unlocking and extraction take place. It also reduces dwell time |

Longer handguard length for people like me who have long arms. Other than that not a whole lot of difference. If you like A front sights handguards are more available for carbine/rifle than mid length gas setups.
Now go shoot the hell out of your rifle for asking that question. |

Interesting asking the question and phrasing it in that manner after a purchase. This. OP, did you purposely purchase a mid-length gun or just happen upon one and decide you wanted it? Something had to have peaked your interest prior to deciding you wanted a middy. I'm curious what that was? Also love my mid-length gas guns, but I love my carbine and rifle length guns just as much. |
