| hey guys i am wondering if it is normal to have slight marks or very minor peening on a barrel extension. i am refering to my new bcm upper..very minor but wondering about it. |
| ya ive cleaned it and shot about 600 rounds through is. so the two tiny ping marks on the two lower left lugs are ok and normal? the bolt looks fine but on the area where it contacts those lugs that have the small peen marks they are more shiny than any of the other bolt lugs. |

It only indicates that your bolt chambered slightly off axis a few times. It's pretty common to see lug strikes like that. Might want to check your bolt and cam pin for sloppy fit in the bolt carrier. When the lugs start taking big bites out your extension then you have a problem. Should be fine. Just keep an eye on the bolt and extension getting a lot worse.

i have a new cam pin to drop in ill try that. this bcm upper only has like 600 rounds. how will this last as long as filthy 14 if it gets any worse. you think its a common thing? i hope so because i have had very very bad luck with every ar part or upper or lower i have bought...thats why i got this bcm because i heard many many good things about bcm and i figured there was no way i was gettin a bum deal this time..i dont know at this point though.
do you guys think i should worry about the marks inside the barrel extension. i bought this upper after reading about the filthy 14 bcm carbine upper so thats what i got. so far so good. everything is smooth runnin and it is pretty accurate. i need it to last thousands of rounds thought because i shoot a lot. |
| shot about 300 rounds today with no issues and it didnt get worse..did a little google search for barrel extension pics and it seems to be pretty common and normal. sorry for all the persistent questions i have just had bad luck lately so i wanna make sure my BCM is BCM quality. |
| i figured bcm could get it right..sig m400 couldnt get it right so i bought something "better" (BCM) and i would expect this kind of shit to not happen..i can live with it as long as it doesnt wear my bolt faster or any other bolt i drop in later down the road. i mean how hard is it to make every part RIGHT..two ways to do things ya know right way and wrong way...cleaned it and checked the extension today after about 300 or so rounds and nothing changed; no worse than it was so maybe it will be all good. |

IIRC it was happening with SCAR's a while back.
Not sure what ever became of the issues or if they figured it out. Found it: http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_6_24/356846_.html |
| oh wow that bolt in that thread is really bad. my bolt looks great except on the side of the two lugs are shiny where the other lugs on the bolt aren't. how many rounds do you guys think one would shoot through a rifle with very minor peen marks (only 2 by the way) on the barrel extension before one would feel comfortable that the rifle would have a normal life span and not be affected in a bad way by this minor flaw. like i shot 300 or so rounds today and it didnt get worse and im gonna shoot 300 more tomarrow. i sent bcm an e-mail with the same picture i posted on this thread and they said they dont see anything problematic and asked if everything ran good. im sorry i worry so much about my ar but i am pretty much poor and have to save money for a long time before i can get uppers like this one i just got for $742.00. i just wanna be confident that i have a good range/defense/shtf rifle. |

Quoted: so is this normal. When you mix/match parts that have tolerances, you will eventually get a combo thats not perfect. I would check the bolt, make sure it doesn't get worse, and keep a extra cam pin on hand. eta and shoot the hell out of it |
| Ya the bolt rubs on the extension on two lugs. its smooth but still rubs and is only wearing on the edge of those 2 lugs. WHAT THE FUCK!!! AHHHHH! I am pissed. Sig m400 barrel extension was out of spec and thats why it broke bolts so i save my money for quality bCM and i get FUCKED again........sorry for the language but this really lets me down..thinkin about going back to ak's. |
| ok tell me this. how many rounds would one shoot before you could feel comfortable with the dings on the extension? they are not getting worse and the only thing i am concerned about is the two lugs wearing ( actually the sides are just getting the finish rubbed off). i have put about 600 to 800 rounds through this upper and i dont notice any changes seems like the marks are staying the same but what i want to know is if there is anyone out there with experience with this issue. does the extension wear out bolts faster or should i just not even worry about it. i know bcm will exchange it for a new one but i like the one i have i just wanna mke sure it is g2g. |
| well im sorry but i just find it hard to believe that my luck is that fucked up that i get two ars (my first 2 ars) and the barrel extensions are both off.) i want it to be fine. i dont want to send it in i love this gun i just dont want the life span of the rifle to be affected in a negative way because of this extension. |
