I just got an original folding/clamp style USGI M-16 Bipod for my Retro Project.
Do they work well...do they stay tight enough around the barrel  or is there any wiggle?
Where it clamps around the barrel, does it scuff  up the finish and should there be any tape or wrap around the barrel where it clamps to keep it tighter and avoid damaging the finish?

Mine came with an Israeli-Tan Military case and was sold as a former Viet Nam era USGI Bipod.

How are they to use and when clamped around the barrel, do they aid in accuracy or ruin it?

I'm guessing it clamps under the sight tower.

This is what it will be used on:

Congrats on your new acquisition.
The old GI clamp-to-the-barrel bipod will scuff the finish as any metal-to-metal contact will.
Also, if you indulge in rapid fire while using one, it will eventually flex the barrel. There are reasons why they free-float things nowadays.

I pretty much found them useless except for keeping your muzzle out of the dirt in your fighting hole.....they didn't even make a decent bottle opener....

Good complement for a retro build though.
