Hey guys, been reading through alot of the threads lately looking for information on my first AR to buy.

Walmart here has them in stock COLT 6920 for $1097, was curious if I should go with this purchase, build my own, or go for a cheaper brand?

Opinions? Thanks guys!

What brand at Walmart are you looking at? If it is the Colt 6920 then jump on it and don't look back.

buy ammo first, learn irons, then get optics once you know what you need.

At the moment it's pretty much whatever you can find at a good price.

OP, the 6920 is a great rifle, probably what most others are judged by. You won't have regrets with it.

As mentioned, get an AImpoint or EOtech (my preference) on it. Something battle worthy for that good Colt. It deserves it.

Go with the Colt as that is a fine deal and quality weapon. The Aimpoint Pro is another good choice.Get some Pmags and an Elzetta light & mount
a sling and you are ready to rock.

These are great rifles and will eat up about any ammo. You can run just about anything through them,so just pick up some ammo that is price good. Me I like to stay with something brass but others here have shot steel cased ammo.I like the brass stuff, but to each his own. Enjoy your new bad ass rifle,it will serve you well.

Just use whatever brass ammo you can find cheapest at Wally World to start your brass stockpile. PPU is usually what I end up getting for like $7.25 a box and it shoots just fine for most range sessions.
