Depends really.  If its an older Colt, it may be dark grey to a light grey ish color.  But honestly there really is no way to tell reliabily


ETA geez i need to learn how to read, I though it said charging handles.........that being said Colt has carry handles with differnent forge marks, but they should all be milspec.  Someone will come along with the pic of the difference between a mil spec handle and a commercial height handle.

I'm not sure if even this is always valid, but my Colt handle is stamped on the handle under the sight.  
You have to remove the sight assembly to see it, but my handle is stamped "C4".

This generally speaking.  You can eliminate a crappy aftermarket usually though.
