As I'm doing another build of which I'll post Pix when I get stock parts back from Hydro-Print
I'm wanting to do an 18" build sorta like a Wilson SPR, but back in the 90's I remember 18" ones where the handguards were the same lenght as a 20" just the barrel was shorter & they were light to  med weight barrels.
Anyone got a clue on where to look for these kind of parts or suggestions on the build, diff direction etc.

Sounds like you want an 18" barrel with rifle length gas and A2 handguards.  The catch is that most 18" barrels are stainless, and stainless barrels usually are not lightweight.

Depending on your budget and your intent I'd say:

A) Get a 20" barrel, send it to ADCO, and have it cut to 18".  Ask them to check that the gas port is of adequate size.  20" heavy barrels and gov't barrels are the most common, but lightweight 20" barrels do exist.

B) Get an 18" stainless barrel and fit it with A2 handguards.  If the weight bothers you, talk to ADCO to see if they can contour it for you.  You may also consider having them add an A2 FSB.  To use A2 handguards, all you need is a regular ("Mil-spec") barrel nut, delta ring, weld spring, snap ring, and handguard retainer.

thats a thought I've got several NOS A1 barrel assembly's I got from the news 20yrs ago
I just updated one to A2 with post & delta ring & mounted it ona A3 in April feels good but haven't fired it yet
Just mounted a 15A2S that had been sitting around for 8yrs, it turned out heavier than expected

so here's the big question I have 4-5 Colt new Heavy barrels, can they be fluted
edit:
"answered my own question according to ADOC web site they can flute any non tapered barrel"
