This is a dumb question but am I supposed to be able to activate the safety if the hammer is not cocked. In other words if I fire the rifle and it does not cycle to reset the hammer should the safety selector be able to be set to safe. The only time I can set my safety to safe is if the hammer is cocked and set. I'm used to shotguns and other rifles that you can operate the safety regardless of weather the hammer is cocked. Thanks for any insight.

The weapon has to have been charged (hammer back) to put the weapon on safe.
