| smith enterprises donated 2 7.62 vortex flash hiders for me to use in afghanistan. they are for the m240b, does anybody know if that thread pitch will work with any barrels besides a m240b? they are pre threaded for a supressor and would love to use them outside of "work" ( ar15/ar10, bolt action rifles, m1a etc... any info would be appreciated) |

Quoted:
Should be 5/8 X 24 TPI like any other 7.62 weapon. This ^^^ would be typical for 7.62 Not very many 5.56 around that sport that thread pitch, they are usually 1/2 - 28 FYI, AR Performance is one of the few that uses 5/8 - 24 for 5.56 Extremely good barrels, BTW. |

You win a trivia award for knowing that Harrison uses 5/8x24 threads on his 5.56 barrels.....and 6.5, 6.8, 7.62. FWIW, he thinks 1/2x28 is small enough to affect accuracy.....maybe so if you torque the heck out of the muzzle device. |

It was "muzzle swelling" from machining operations, that he noted in barrels that used 1/2 - 28 thread pitch. Flash hider torque spec from the M16/M4 Tech Manual is a low 15-20 foot pounds. |
