I'd like the spikes upper but I haven't seen any in stock for ages and no one seems to carry it.
Is this thing a piece of crap? http://www.model1sales.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=category.display&category_id=309 Other option includes Huldra Arms Piston Upper What say ye? |

Keep watching AIM, I picked one up the last time they got some in and love it. Things are starting to normalize here and there. They will pop up, in the mean time buy ammo. |

These Spikes uppers are excellent, if you can find one. Mine has performed perfectly over 4 crates of 7N6 ammo. I like that one so much, I just built a Ballistic Advantage upper, that should be as good as the Spikes, or near so. Ammo is starting to become more available, probably components will normalize soon. The Spikes 5.45 uppers are far from being pieces of crap, they were done right (Lothar Walther barrels and all treated parts). The Model1 sales upper is probably ok- but probably not near equals to Spikes or BA uppers. Hot link to Model1 sales 5.45 upper I will not say the Model1 uppers are crap, I do not know. I'd prefer to find a better upper tho. They are becoming available. EDIT to add hot link. |

I have a S&W. I should shoot it more than I do. I've never shot any of the commercial ammo but the surplus Russian stuff is as accurate (if not more so) than most of my .223 AR15s. I've only shot it out to 300 yds. but at that distance it will hold a 4" wide by 6" tall 5 shot group. I could be wrong but I think the taller than wider group Is due to the SUIT optic on the rifle. Its kind of hard to keep the tip of the pointer on the top of the circle at 300 yds.
If you shoot the Russian surplus, be sure you do a good job of cleaning it pretty son after you shoot it as the surplus stuff is corrosive. No issue if you clean it right and clean it good and lube it properly afterwards. |
