I am currently putting a project together around a BCM 16" midlength 5.56 upper. I have always built carbines or 20" rifles. My question is
"Which buffer to use with the Midlength system for the greatest reliability?" I will be using different bullet weights and various manufacturers.
So my concern is 100% reliability. Thanks.- Will

I have a BCM 16" midlength upper & it works perfectly with a standard carbine buffer or a ST-T2 (H2 weight) buffer.  I do notice a little less 'harsh' action with the T2 buffer.  This is with everything from WPA to M193

Both of my BCM 16" middies run 100% on standard carbine buffers.

Any will work, heavier is smoother, typically. I like my H2s

All of mine have used a standard carbine buffer.

H buffer and standard carbine action spring.

H buffer and standard carbine spring, seems perfect, never had a problem with any ammo.
Upper is a BCM hammer forged 16" government  profile..

Here's your answer right here.

This.

the regular carbine buffers will work fine.  I would avoid buying an H or H2 buffer before testing the rifle with a carbine buffer, as it may slow the cyclic rate down a little too much to shoot some steel case or cheap ammo.

That being said, mid length gas systems with H2 buffers generally shoot quality brass ammo like a dream

I have never shoot really cheap ammo, but my H buffer works fine with both 14.5 and 16 inch middy uppers. Cheapest stuff I shot was PMC btw.

BCM lowers come standard with H buffers -if that means anything

I have a carbine and a middy.

My DD middy build runs a T2 buffer and (at the moment) standard spring and my LMT carbine runs the same buffer with a Sprinco red spring.

My DD will cycle Tula just fine and the LMT will damn near short stroke. LMT is clean and well lubed, so it will more than likely get worse the dirtier it gets.

The recoil impulse is a mild push with the LMT and the DD feels sharper.

I'm looking at getting Sprinco blue springs for both. The red spring just seems to tight when cycling the action.

Hope this helps.

Thanks to all. I did notice that BCM uses the H buffer as standard, so that is my plan.

All my 14.5" and 16" DD and BCM middies have run Sprinco blue springs with H2 buffers.

100 percent reliable over ten thousand plus rounds and 7 different rifles in that category now.

Noticeably smoother than the standard buffer spring and H buffer they started with.
