First time poster, been a lurker for awhile.
I have had a few rifles that were nice, mostly the DPMS brand. They worked great, but I recently sold my last one, and I am curious about the Deaniel Defense line. I am wanting a lighter weight rifle that will be very accurate with a nice crisp trigger out of the box. What kind of accuracy are you guys seeing at 100-200 yds and do your triggers have much creep/play? Rifle will be used for basic paper punching and the occasional hunt for coyotes, etc. My boys and I love to shoot and the .223/5.56 round allows us to do a lot of that. Is it worth spending the $1350.00 for the m4v7...is there anothe roption I am missing? Thanks for you rgenerosity in helping me make this decision. Pulpit. |
| I would suggest looking at the M4V7LW as well. Unfortunately, I have not been able to do any real accuracy testing at 100 yet. I'm not impressed with the trigger, but then my only other experience with an AR trigger is with a two-stage RRA unit. I do plan to replace the DD trigger with a Geissele SSA. |
|
I have seldom heard anything bad about any DD rifle although I don't own one.
Everyone I know that has one say they are among the best you can buy. You can find a review here: DD M4V7 Review |

DD makes a great rifle, awesome barrels and some of the more accurate I've laid my hands on short of SS barrels.
I will say you're gonna be hit or miss on if you like the mil-spec trigger thats going to come in it, probably isn't going to be much if any different than the ones in your previous DPMS. If it were me I'd get the DD and then drop a Geissele SSA in the lower. |
| I am new to ARs but not triggers. I shot a DD over the weekend and I loved the gun (great finish and fit), but not the trigger. It was bad from a creep, un-smooth, gritty standpoint. It would lurch back. I know battle rifles are not the same as target rifles but I would not that trigger on any gun. Maybe it just needed cleaning and breaking in. It was brand new, Like I shot the 10th shot out of the rifle. |

Thanks everyone, sounds like the DD is a good choice.
The one in question is at my local gun store here in GA. They have an excellent armorer there as well. He recommended the DD or a full build. I wanted something out of the box I guess. I have heard the Geiselle is amazing. Thanks for your input, it has me between paying $650 for another DPMS Oracle, or going with the DD m4v7. Are they $700 better? Sounds like a trigger is needed in either one. I'm not opposed to either really, I'm wide open. Thanks! |

Daniel Defense is top notch. I have the DD M4 V5.
My two bits though would be to get one with the heavier barrel than the thin profile LW series. I think the LW is great for run and gun events like 3 Gun, but less likely to be a consistent tack driver over repeated fire paper punching scenarios. For hunting and target shooting, there isn't much reason to use a thin profile barrel. Also, the mil spec triggers are very hit and miss. I've heard of folks getting decenet ones, but for the most part, the tend to have crunchy, inconsistent take up. I replaced mine with a Geissele Super Dynamic 3 Gun and noticed an immediate improvement in accuracy. Especially at distances out to 600 yards. A two stage would be even better at long range, but I do use my gun for 3 Gun where a single stage with fast reset is an asset. |

Primary Arms has the Daniel Defense V1 Lightweight rifle in stock and on sale for $1334! Regular price not too long ago was $1759.
Killer deal and one hell of a rifle! https://www.primaryarms.com/Daniel_Defense_V1_Lightweight_Rifle_5_56_NATO_16_p/da-22162.htm Edit: OP, the deal you found for the m4v7 at $1350 is a great price also.. |

I honestly would go with either a v5LW or a v7LW. I saw the v7LW for $1350 on gunbroker the other day. MSRP is like $1550 diirectly from DD. Like all of said, DPMS isn't even remotely close.
Can not beat DD customer service. Also, watch the video on youtube on the Torture Test. |

My trigger was not that good from the factory, gritty. I put some lapping compound on the mating surfaces and sat in front of the tv cycling the trigger, which helped ever so slightly. I ended up buying a Geissele, it was a great investment. Mine really likes heavier bullets, 75gr. Here a pic of the rifle and a 100 yard target.

| I've had a DD V3LW as a patrol rifle for going on three years now. Absolutely love it. The trigger was a GI trigger, it is what it is. I replaced it with an SSA and haven't looked back. Accuracy wise you can reasonable expect around 2MOA with quality ammo. It's a combat style rifle designed with combat style accuracy along with a durable barrel over the longer term. Don't get it expect stainless barrel sub MOA accuracy, that's not what it was designed for. It's one of the best manufactures on the market. As long as you have to correct expectations you will not be disappointed. |

If my expectations are MOA instead of more than that, which route should I go? I know Rock River makes an R3 model that states 3/4 MOA. Any opinions? Do you want a battle rifle style gun or a varmint gun? Different guns for different purposes. DD guns are not made for extremely high accuracy. They are accurate but it's not a stainless match barrel. If your looking for MOA and less then a DD is not what your looking for and the RR or other varmint gun would be better suited to the task. |

I am going to buy an AR15 sometime next year. I have looked around a lot and it looks like DD is the way to go, most rifle per dollar. Now if I can find one for sale, I want a flat top. Hopefully when I'm ready rifles and ammo will be more accessible and the price will be lower.
I have never read anything bad about them and it looks like they are a high quality rifle. I remember the difference between a Colt and the other rifles in basic training and the Colt was a better rifle in every way. I want the flat top because of my short neck and 4 herniated discs in my neck. |

As a DDM4V5 and DDMK18 owner, I can say they are very nice and accurate rifles.
The trigger in the DDM4V5 was actually quite exceptional after 1,000 rounds....very comparable to the Geissele SSA that replaced it with the only notable difference being the weight of the pull. |

DPMS = base Ford Ranger DD = F250 King Ranch super duty fully loaded And I think I am being nice with that analogy Yeah you were being nice. How about "bashed Ford Ranger", rebuilt at Bubba's Garage and Plumbing using counterfeit parts! Anyway, I love my DDM4V3 16" LW. |
