I have a carbine with lightweight barrel, I cannot get full 20 round Colt stamped mags to feed when full, if they only have 10 or 12 rounds then it feeds fine but full mags just don't work. I am thinking buffer spring is worn out or just to light ?? I need to use 20 rounders for a small lady who shoots it.  Thanks in advance for any insight.

Are you talking about babying the rifle and manually feeding it, or this happens while you are shooting it?

Pics of mags?

You're sure they're 223/556 mags?

Too many variables to diagnose.

Try 30 round mags.
Try pmags
Try 20 round pmags
Is this manual feeding or live fire you are having a problem with?
Does the bolt lock back?
What type of malfunction happens?
Is this a factory rifle or built?

We need more info, rifle?, who built it?, what other mags have you tried? results? what does it appear to be doing wrong? A video would be excellent.

It is a PSA built rifle, lightweight 16" barrel, I don't baby it, I load the mags to 20 rounds (they are new Colt 20 round aluminum mags).  PMags (30 rounders work).  I will admit the rounds are tight in the mag on the 20 round Colt's.

H2 buffer + new spring (standard mil spec should be fine) and if the problem persists, I would say it is the mags.  Do the mags work in other rifles?

Well hold on. I don't think the OP needs to replace parts on the rifle quite yet. If 30 round PMAGs are working fine, I doubt it's a problem with the rifle itself.

OP, you say new Colt mags. Like others have asked, do these "new" mags work fine in other rifles? Have you tried any GI style 30 rounders in said rifle that's having issues with the Colt 20 rounders?

Where did you purchase said Colt mags?

ETA: can you post some pics of these mags, specifically of the feed lips and follower.
