Wouldn't a rubber banded jar-opener/oil filter wrench work? Like 2 bucks at the dollar store, brah. Sometimes. If it's properly torqued, probably not. No - they don't grip well enough on those lock rings - but they do work well for unscrewing the tube itself if someone used Loctite.
