| So, I have the jig, the #31 drill bit and the 2/0 taper pin reamer all ready to go for the pinning of my low profile gas block. But! I want to hand ream with the 2/0 taper pin reamer. The trouble is, I have bought 2 T tap reamer holders now and neither of them go small enough to clamp around the end for holding the reamer in place. I think I have purchased the smallest ones out on the market for these T tap holders. So, help! Can anybody suggest me a T tap holder (or another hand held device) that will successfully hold my 2/0 taper pin reamer in place? All the directions on this are real good except for explaining what tool is needed to hold the reamer... Any replies would be greatly appreciated! |

I have a Starrette No-9 that will tighten down on a 1/16 drill. Would sure as hell work for you. I use it for 4-40 3-56 taps and the like. |

"A lot of tap holders have a secondary cup further down in the cylinder- remove the adjustment collar and look down the holder- you might just need to insert your tool deeper."
Ok, so upon further review, this was the exact fix. There is indeed a smaller cup recessed in the first initial cup. I put the end of the 2/0 tap pin reamer bit down further into that second cup, tightened er down and voila. Perfect fit. El worko. For all you complete noobs like me looking to pin your low profile gas block, go and read the tons of literature out there about set screws backing out even with locktite and whatnot on these low profile gas blocks. Guys are even seeing issues with the low profile gas blocks canting with the set screws staked. For this reason, dimpling, set screws, and pinning is the only sure fire way to do this with these low profile gas blocks. I looked all over the net and didn't really find one set way to do it all. After much pain, these are the definitive parts you need for this: Go to this website for the jigs you will need (one for dimpling, one for the pinning): www.brdengineering.com. You will need both jigs if you want to do anything that is worth while. You can find these jigs at Brownells, bravocompanyusa, and Rainier arms. They are not cheap but take my word for it, they are worth it. The jig I got for the pinning came with two taper pins so you should be good there. #31 HSS jobber length drill bit 2/0 HSS taper spiral pin reamer ***The tool to hand hold the taper pin reamer --> you will want to hand ream if you know what is good for you here...: http://www.brownells.com/gunsmith-tools-supplies/general-gunsmith-tools/taps-dies/tap-die-wrenches/t-handle-tap-wrench-t-handle-no-1e-size-0-12-sku395-311-001-6880-17323.aspx I listed this stuff because it was literally pain to find the info on this on the net especially what stinken tool to use to hold the darn reamer bit.
