I cut down my FSB so I could install FF handguard. The problem came when I cut off the sling swivel. I cut it just as I did the bayo lug, but when I looked where I had cut the sling swivel off, there is a small hole in the middle of the flat part. The hole is about the size of a match head, maybe a tad larger. Inside the hole it is pretty hollow, but this hole does not go into the tapered pin channel. Is this something to be concerned with? Should I fill the hole, or just polish up and cold blue like I planned? Thanks!

Sorry, no pics of this. I will try and get one if need be.

that is the hole the drill bit makes as it goes to the "top" of the FSB to drill the gas hole......it is supposed to be there. leave it be.

Weird, I never would have thougth that. I have seen pics of other FSB shave downs, and didn't notice a hole under the sling swivel once it was cut down flat.

Well, it makes my day that it is supposed to be there. I will carry on.

Thanks!

What was also strange is that the pins came out right to left. Everything I had read said that "most" taper pins come out left to right. Good thing I measured before pounding on them. Bent several punches before getting out a nail setter. One flew out on the first whack, the other took about 3 whacks. This after pounding for an hour with punches. I had already trimmed the FSB in place, but I could not get the handguard retainer to break off. So I slid the FSB out of the way, broke off the handguard retainer, then put the FSB back on. Pins were much more fun to put in than to take out. Big punch, bigger whacks.

I believe Stag rifles taper pins are reversed coming out right to left, instead of the standard left to right. Do you have a Stag? If not, what brand rifle do you have? Stag's are good rifles and I wouldn't hesitate to build/own one...

Looking down the muzzle, as if pointing at a bad buy. Small end of taper was on the same side as dust cover.

I was surprised it was on this side. I eyeballed it, then just to make sure I wasnt losing my mind I put calipers on it to confirm.

Yes, it was. I cut it as far as I could without nicking the barrel, and I tried to twist and pull it off the rest of the way. It just tore sideways, and left ugly jagged edges. Once I got the FSB slide away from it, a pair of wire cutters finished the job on the end cap.
