Hi all,

I need some advice and opinions.  Just saw a Daniel Defense DDM4 V4 with approximately 4000 rounds through it.  Approximately how much life does this rifle have left, please give rough number.  Seller said he used it to chase away rodents, squirrels, coyote etc.  I can not really afford a new rifle with the current price level.  Thank  you for all your advice and opinion.  May god bless you and have a good day (night).

If you cannot afford a new rifle, chances are you can't afford enough ammo to shoot the barrel out.
That said around 11k left? I may be way off but I have around 3k though my v2 and I feel it's just being broken in.

It doesn't get any better than Daniel Defense.

thank you very much hatexoc,

now I know what to do.  I am new to AR15.  Never really though about owning one but with the way things are going now one might be handy when SHTF.  Off course with lots of training, the money I save will go to ammo.

This is what I was thinking. At current pricing I would say it still has a minimum of $20,000 worth of ammo life left in it.

Hard to tell how much life is left. Total number of rounds is not enough info. Barrels can be shot out in 5000 rounds depending on ammo type and how rapidly the gun was fired. That being said the worse case scenario has you replacing the barrel and maybe the bolt sooner than later.

DD's are fine guns and I wouldn't be afraid of buying a used one that passed a visual inspection.

With Daniel Defense's hammer forged barrels I would say it has A LOT of life left but as stated before it depends on how rapidly fired it was. More than likely its good to go, how much is the seller asking for it?

They are asking 850, they said it kinda old though, I guess I am willing to take a gamble worse comes, I will change out the barrel down the road.

For $850, go for it.  A complete and basic lower (not considering that it is also a DD, which can sell for more) is right around $400....So you are paying, worse case scenario, $450 for a complete rifle.  If it doesn't work out for you, sell it for $1,000 and let someone else get a good deal while you recoup any funds invested.

They are a solid manufacturer, and worth your $850.

Your math does not make sense.

$850 for a Daniel Defense AR? As long as it is in decent condition jump on it

If someone says they have 4000 rounds through a gun, they very well may have 8000 rounds through it. Seems like the nature of used guns sales.

It does.

I am simply saying he could very easily sell it and make more money (to cover costs such as FFL/shipping).  It isn't as hard as you make it .

The mention of lower receivers costs is that he could easily split the lower and upper to recoup his funds.

6-11 thousand more rounds? Depends on what loads he's been shooting, cleaning style ect. But even if your barrel has lost it's edge in say.. 4-6k rounds.. Get a new bolt/ barrel combo and go back to shooting without changing anything else.

Once you have the platform, it's always their, so just replace the worn out items with new ones and keep shooting. And if you can afford to scratch up the cash to burn through that many rounds by then, you'll be able to afford a 350-400$ barrel by then.

Good luck.

"approximately 4000 rounds through it"

That means nothing to me. It could be 2k or 20k. The only way to really keep track of round count is to document it. I have never done this for an AR but I do it for my custom bolt-actions. At $850 it's a good deal unless it looks totally abused. Shoot the shit out of it. Barrels, BCG's and other parts can be replaced down the road as needed. I would probably replace the springs and gas rings but that's me. I'm sure it's fine. If you know someone that knows these rifles, bring him with you to look at it.

How "old" is it?  How long has DD been making rifles?   I would make sure it is a DD rifle...even if it isn't It still is a good price.
